Re: **Amanda**

  • It's already over with (only 4 classes) and I ended up being pretty disappointed in it. The instructor was extremely knowledgeable when it came to cameras and photography, but he got sidetracked too often by telling his personal stories. Also, we spent far too much time going over the features of digital cameras. Hello, that's what a manual is for!

The last 3 classes we spent "critiquing" our classmates photos. That's all fine and dandy, but I want to see examples of photography done well...so I know how to do it myself. Our instructor would point out things we could do to improve a photo (rearranging people in a group shot, using fill flash to get rid of shadows on peoples faces, etc.). but I just felt like it was more of an AW session.

Overall I was pretty disappointed. I did learn some things, but I felt like the class lacked any kind of structure or curriculum, especially with it only being 4 classes long.

  • Oh what a bummer.  I was hoping that it would be really informative - it's always nice to get tips and tricks for shooting from another person's opinion.

Well I am glad to hear that you got a few good things from it, but you're right, it seems that the class should have been longer and more "how to" before critiquing.

You might want to look and see if there are any photo-walks in your area.  Often times local photographers will get together at a given location to go shooting and you can really learn a lot by watching others and asking why they did what they did.

  • I was going to add, I thought in the past I've seen you on TheBump's photography board ... you should come back and join us!  A lot of the regulars left to start another forum so they could post about things against the rules on that board (business stuff mainly) but a few still come back around to answer questions, critiques, and opinions.

That's a good idea! I used to lurk quite a bit, but haven't been on there in forever.
