DSLR Ladies - Camera ?s

Hey ladies both Craig and I have SLRs and I am wanting to upgrade Craig to the DSLR for Christmas. Since neither of us have an expensive wide angle lense, my understanding is that we don't have to worry about the difference between full frame and APS-C format with our current lenses. Do you agree with this assesment, or will it be a huge change from the 35 mm to the APS-C format? Craig's current SLR and lenses are Canon. I was thinking of upgrading him to either Rebel T2i EF-S or the EOS 60D, my understanding, based on this comparison, of the differences between the 2 other then price, is speed. Is it worth the extra money to go with the faster speed? He doesn't go out to shoot enough for me to justify the jump in price to EOS 7D. We aren't that interested in running video through our camera so that feature isn't super important to us, but is a nice bonus.

TIA

Re: DSLR Ladies - Camera ?s

  • Hmm, I know more about Nikon than Canon but I'll try and help out a bit.

The Rebel is more of an entry level camera where the EOS60D is more of a semi-pro camera.  If he is an experienced hobyist he may prefer the 60D as it is an upgrade.

Since I am not as familiar with the Canon line these reviews may help:

    EOS 60D

    T2i

As far as going from 35mm to a crop sensor:

Angle of View (degrees, Hoizontal) 35mm
    "full frame"
    APS-C "crop"
    Normal lens 39.6 50mm 31.3mm
    Normal-wide 54.4 35mm 21.8mm
    Wide 65.5 28mm 17.5 mm
    Very wide 73.7 24mm 15mm
    Super wide 84 20mm 12.5 mm
    Ultra wide 96.7 16mm 10mm
    Telephoto 9.5 135 mm 84.3 mm
    Long telephoto 4.3 300 mm 187.5 mm
    Super Telephoto 2.1 600 mm 375 mm
    Extreme Telephoto 1.5 840 mm 600mm

I had a great website that showed a better example of the crop factor, let me see if I can find it for you.

ETA: here is the website that will show you the difference between a full frame (35mm) and the crop sensor.  They don't have either of the 2 cameras that you listed in the menu, but I am pretty sure all canon's (except the full frame sensors) have the same crop factor.
