WWCND?

My housekeepers come once a week on Wednesday. Because my small dog is so badly hurt I will need to keep the dogs separated and completely quiet tomorrow and therefore I can't have them come. I have left a message asking them not to come. Do I pay them anyway?

Re: WWCND?

  • I would call. Was there some sort of policy about how much notice you need to give them or else you have to pay?
  • No, you don't. That's the nature of that biz.

  • no. we have the most relaxed situation ever. I didn't even have their phone number until a few months ago even though they have been cleaning for us for like 5 years

  • In that type of employment you don't expect pay if you didn't do they job. But since you have a long-standing arrangement maybe leave a large tip next time?

Sometimes I wonder if scientists have never seen a sci-fi movie before. "Oh yes, let's create a super species of deer. NOTHING COULD POSSIBLY GO WRONG." I wonder if State Farm offers a Zombie Deer Attack policy. -CaliopeSpidrman

Ditto Mouse.  We also have a very informal arrangement and that's what I did the one time we accidently locked the top deadbolt (the key she doesn't have) and she showed up but couldn't get in due to our eff up.

  • We have a very similar arrangement with our house cleaner.  The only time I pay her when she doesn't come is when we go on vacation, and that's mostly because we know the family needs the money and, heck, she deserves a paid vacation, too.  Still, I know that's highly unusual, and she sometimes cancels on us, so I feel okay canceling on her once in a blue moon (or more commonly, locker her out, a la lindsay).

Since it is the holiday season and I know everyone's spending a lot, I'd likely make up for it in her tip/Christmas gift.

  • Our situation is informal. I wouldn't pay. Both of us have cancelled at the last minute and it has never been an issue.
  • I want a house cleaner
