big thigh/denim rant

i'm so irritated. i am now on the 4th pair of jeans that i have worn through in the thighs because my thighs rub together when i walk. i'm not skinny but i'm only a size 8 for cripes sake, wtf? and i only wear jeans on F-Su because of work so it's not like they get over used or something.

please tell me i'm not the only person this happens to...

Re: big thigh/denim rant

  • No, you're not the only one.  Same thing has happened to me.  Have you ever owned a pair of SIlver's?  Those are pretty much the only jeans I wear because they last a long time and they fit my body very well.  The pair I'm wearing right now I've had almost 3 years and are in very good condition still.

  • that's what makes it even MORE irritating, it's happening to my $$$ MEKs and Big Stars! Angry

I have one pair of Silvers but I never wear them anymore. Maybe I should break them out again.

  • Ha! I just had this happen last week to the second pair in a year.

Both were GAP jeans and fit a bit looser. The tighter fitting jeans I have don't seem to wear as quickly in that area - but the comfy loose ones do. GRRRR!

This happens to me ALL.the.time!  I agree with your frustration...it is majorly annoying!!!

  • My thighs rub and I don't think I've ever experienced jeans getting worn out like this.  All of my jeans are from Express and I love em!!!

i wish i liked express jeans. i have 3 pairs and i don't like the washes on any of them so i never wear them. they're my "housework" jeans.

  • Story of my life. Mine don't get holes worn in them but the material definitely gets thin. I'd suggest trying a different pair of jeans. Mine are all from Lane Bryant, which won't help you any, but maybe try the Silvers or just experiment with other brands of jeans.

  • I haven't had the wearing-out issue, I just have problems finding jeans that even fit. I realize my hips/thighs are much bigger than my waist, but I can't possibly be the only woman shaped this way.

Where are the jeans for curvy people?

  • Why does my body have that rubbing only like once a year for a day or two?  It hurts like a mother and I always wonder how people handle it.  But then it magically stops and waits about a year to happen again.

And yes, I have skinny legs = all genetics.  I  can't get jeans that fit my non-butt, non-hips, and crazy long legs.  I know my short friends struggle but seriously, I'd take HEMMING over flooding any day! lol  I've thought about inventing a fashion trend where you'd add a little fabric "skirt" around the bottom hems to enlongate them. haha

I'm tempted to try on a very expensive pair of jeans some day...if I can find brands that are LONG!

  • I seem to have fabric wear the most in this area, too. For my expensive jeans I always wash them on delicate and never put them in the dryer.  I think between that and wearing a few (3-4) times before washing has helped them last for over 3 years now. It sucks, but even the expensive ones don't last as long. They do seem to retain their shape better.

  • Jeans suck.  I've never had any wear out at the thighs but it's not because they aren't rubbing - they certainly are.  (Whose thighs don't rub??)

I hate the sizing of jeans at different stores.  Some stores I can't get a 10 over my knees and other stores a 10 is big.  What gives??  I've learned I can't judge anything by just holding them up either.  Phooey.

I got some jeans this weekend at The Loft that were actually long enough (gasp!).  I end up wearing the same pair of jeans over and over and over and over until I find the next "it" pair then the cycle repeats.

  • Mine rub too but I've never worn out a pair of jeans...all I wear (and that look good on me) are Joe's and Lucky and I've never had problems with them.  In fact I am still wearing the same pair of Lucky's I had in college and they've held up since I am old!

I did just recently buy a pair of Khan's so we'll see how they hold up.

  • I'm also a size 8 with all my weight in my thighs/butt.  My bigger problem is the irritation/chafing when I wear a dress...which is why I'm a huge fan of spanx!  Tried the cream and that was a joke.  I've never had jeans fully wear through like that though- just get worn down a bit.

I hate my skin touching when I'm wearing a dress.  Ick.  Especially in the summer.  Double ick.

Thighs suck in general.  :-(  Teenagers should really learn to appreciate theirs while they are cute and little.

Silver.  Try several different styles because they are made for different body types.  Maurices and the buckle always have a large selection.

  • I also have this problem.. I've worn out a few pairs of Gap jeans this year because of this...  I never used to have a problem with Gap jeans, but they've made the fabric thinner and less stretchy, I think that is the problem.  I hate it though, it's frustrating.  I had a pair rip in the thigh while shopping at Home Depot this summer... about the most embarrassing thing ever.

Ugh agreed.  I went to Puerto Rico for a port stop and decided it would be a good idea to wear a sundress that day.  We walked...everywhere...in 95 degree humidity.  I was walking bow-legged by the end of the day I was in so much pain.

  • I've had them rip on me in the thigh (I was home thank goodness!). It sucks!

The only jeans that I like (when not pregnant) are my BKE's from The Buckle. Those jeans are awesome on my curvy butt. I hope they fit again when this is over.

  • I have the problem (with them wearing through in the thigh!) It's super annoying and happens a bunch with my Gap jeans, which sucks because those seem to be the ones that fit me the best.

I wish you could do something with all the jeans that rip there - I feel bad throwing out all that denim but obviously in its ripped form its not good for anything (unless there is something crafty that could be done with it, but I'm not very crafty!)

  • I've had other fabric pants wear out where the thighs rub, but never jeans. Maybe I'm lucky in that way. My biggest vent with jeans is that my body shape is SO weird that I haven't even found a pair I love. Since having the kids, I'm a size 14-16 and I'm only 5'4" so I'm a Petite. No one carries a 14-16 Petite that I don't have to suck in my gut to button and doesn't have a ton of extra fabric in the thighs that do nothing for my already-suffering figure.

Yuck. I totally agree. I hardly wear skirts or dresses at all for this reason. I know some people that seem to live in skirts and dresses in the summer and I am always tempted to ask how they can be comfortable. My thighs burn just thinking about it.  I am way more comfortable even in ill fitting jeans.  Sigh.
