Ditto this. I live on the SE side so I may not be able to give good recs on some things, but the one thing I will say that I dislike very much about this state/area is the lack of hospitals nearby. They are few and far between and when you have to go in, you wait hours upon hours. There have been times when we've gone in (my FI gets chronic kidney stones so we've had our fair share of trips to the ER) and there were waiting times of 7-9 hours! CRAZY! Others may be able to speak a little better about them, but from what we've heard/experienced, Emory is really good and has 2 locations (I've heard Midtown is the better of the 2 but I could be wrong). Piedmont in Fayetville is also nice and that's where we go (if we can't get into Henry County).
Best places to shop for clothes, gifts, furniture? (new house yay!) Ethan Allen, lots of cute shops in VA HI and bigger shops over off of Chattahoochee, Huff, and Ellsworth Industrial for furniture. My favorite gift shops are Limetree in Vinings and Love Street in Smyrna.
Best healthcare/hospital/ob/etc? One close to where you live (this is not sarcastic; it's a recurring theme for Atlanta since traffic is bad.)
Best of things to do on weekends? (Date night or family) Martinis and IMAX at Fernbank for date night. Zoo Atlanta or the Aquarium for kiddos and/or visiting relatives
Best churches? Depends on your religion.
Anything else I should know about this great state? Summer is really hot with lots of bugs.

Hey Martini since you live in Henry County if you haven't tried out Pasta Max you should give it a try. They are really good. It's in downtown McDonough off the square.

Best restaurants? some of my favorites: sugo, nuevo laredo, two urban licks, one midtown kitchen, antica napoletana, the vortex, ormsbys, goldfish, houstons, st angelos, wildfire, swallow at the hollow, sam and daves bbq (they are two separate places now i think), nan thai, panita thai, bombay grille
Best places to shop for clothes, gifts, furniture? (new house yay!)perimeter mall, lenox mall, va highlands, ikea, pottery barn, crate and barrel, pier one, cost plus world market, home goods
Best healthcare/hospital/ob/etc? northside hospitals
Best of things to do on weekends? (Date night or family) martinis and imax at fernbank, various hiking trails, farmers markets when it's warm
Best churches? i wouldn't know but there are some other nesties who go to church
Anything else I should know about this great state? i think southern hospitality is a myth but that's not to say that people here aren't nice!
