Why...

does everything always seem to turn into a big ordeal?

DD's birthday is next week and we were going to have a big party for her but things happened and we told her no party. We said only cake with family. This "little" party has turned into 25 ppl. Not because of her but once you ask one person to come I feel obligated to invite the other family members. Ex, my mom was of course coming, well my brother planned to go to my moms that day (he lives in Astatula) so I had to invite him, when I invite him I have to invite my sister and her family, my aunt lives next door to my mom so I had to invite her family. Of course H's mom and her family had to be invited. So this "little" party has snowballed!

H is running in the Jingle thing, so I will be the only one getting everything ready for the "little" party. I did tell him he is doing the grilling! :P

Re: Why...

  • You do this to yourself, you know.  You send yourself on the "but their feelings will be hurt" guilt trip, all on your own.  You could've kept the guest list minimal at +2 - your mom and brother.

I know. But my brothers family is 5 people, and my moms is 3 and my dad has to come. (mom and dad bought her "big" gift) H's mom had to be invited, it would not be right not to invite them, DD is their grandchild also. So that is another 3. So I guess how much more was it to invite my sister and her family (5ppl) and my aunt and her family (3ppl).

If my brother was not already planning to spend the weekend with my mom then I could have just had my mom (3), my dad, and H's mom (3). But I would look like a real jackass not to extend the invite to the rest of my family. Oh, and 2 neighbor kids are coming. (they are at our house all the time.)

  • You?  Are crazy.  ;)  Good luck with the smallish-yet-growing party!
