Help me out (re: get healthy competition)

This should probably go on the H&F board, but I mainly lurk there, don't post much, so...I'll start here

H and I really want to get back into good shape and live a healthy life, but with our schedules we have started some bad habits. With new years around the corner we've decided that we're gonna do P90X together and get back in to running, but we want to do a competition because we're both really driven by that. To start with I'm thinking that we'll each put $25.00 in a jar, if we do certain things (like eat fast food or skip a workout, we have to contribute $1.00)

First of all, I need some ideas of other 'bad' things that would make us put money in the jar

Secondly, how should we judge the winner? I don't want it to be just weight loss driven, but how else should we decide who gets the money?!

Thanks!

  • Other bad: buying junk food, persuading SO to eat out/make crappy dinners, half-@assing (is that a word? lol) P90X

You could judge the winner based on percent body fat lost, percent muscle gained, who upped their weight/reps the most in P90X, improved their run time, or even a scoreboard of several important things to y'all, e.g: he "won" lbs lost and body fat lost but you won improved run, and muscle gained and max reps.

BTW I might have to steal this idea from you. It's great...and I love beating Shane lol

  • Eskamo has good ideas.  Picking the winner depends on your overall goal.  If you want to lose fat and gain muscle, judge it that way.  Or you might also decide the winner based on how much money each of you contributed.  Hypothetically, the person who contributed the most money screwed up the most, so the other person would win.  You'd have to keep track of how much you each put in the jar.

  • what about putting a small red/blue (or, whatever color) dot in the corner of each bill that you of you put in the jar, i.e., all of your bills have a red dot on it and all of his have a blue dot. that way at the end you can see who contributed more bills and therefore is the loser..or at least contributes to figuring out who is the winner/loser.

  • ooh I like the idea of counting the dollar bills, for some reason that hadn't occurred to me. Since the goal is partly weight related (I mean...I have a few pounds I could spare) I think I'm gonna do the calculation for the winner with a little math.

weight lost + inches lost - dollars in jar = winner!

Since it's going to be over the course of P90x (which is the three month program) we'll do a competition each month, so that it keeps us focused and not like, well...I have 3 months, blah blah blah.
