Foundation/powder in particular.
I have combination/acne prone skin, I hate having all kinds of junk all over it. Right now I use a cheapy powder mineral makeup lightly dusted all over, and then some cover girl concealer under eyes, on blemishes, etc.
I am thinking of trying a light liquid foundation or a tinted moisturizer instead of my powder stuff, but it would need to be really light because my t-zone gets out of control oily, and I don't want to feel gunky.
I'm also in the market for a new face powder, loose or pressed. I'm all about drug store brands (that's pretty much all I use right now), but the stuff I'm using just isn't really cutting it anymore. I need to be nicer to my skin.
Tell me what you use and love?
Re: Let's talk makeups
I started using the CoverGirl Clean liquid foundation and powder in the closest shade to "ghost white" they make. They have a formula for oily skin, which is the one I use. It doesn't give a whole lot of coverage for blemishes, but I use concealer for those anyway. It's pretty sheer, but it evens my skin tone enough to suffice and it's super light, doesn't feel like I'm wearing makeup at all, and it never gets gunky and gross.
And then I just use the powder to touch-up during the day if I feel like I'm getting shiny and it works like a charm
Kristen, I have heard a lot of good things about Laura Mercier.
However, trying out the drugstore stuff a la Shamwow is tempting. I'm just such a cheapskate.
I went to Shopper's Drug Mart tonight (Canadian company) and they were having a big makeup night and they attacked me with expensive stuff and put stuff on my face against my will and then I ran away but not before I spent a bunch of money on makeup that I then read reviews of online when I got home, and I am returning it tomorrow because I don't likes what I sees.
I'm with Kristin, as the wrinkles appear i throw money at them in the form of better makeup. Seems to be working.
I love everyday minerals foundations and some of their blush. I haven't tried the eyeshadows yet.

I'm in the same predicament as everyone else. My skin is starting to get older, and it demands respect dammit.
Kristen, we do have Sephora in Canada, unfortunately not in my city. I did make an account and sign up as a beauty insider the other day, because I was thinking once I find the products I like, I can just order from the website.
Foundation is scary, it's so much easier to do wrong than things like eyeliner and mascara.
I used to love Bare Escentuals, but then all of a sudden while I was pregnant with Will it started making my face get all blotchy and rashy. I've tried it a few times since not being pregnant and it still messes me up. Boo. Also, even using just a little bit of the warmth stuff made my face look orange - just in case you're uber pale like me.
I've been using Stila's tinted moisturizer and I like it. It doesn't offer much coverage for blemishes, but it's light and does a good job of evening my skintone out and it has sunscreen, which I've grown to appreciate as I get old. (You're young and live in the tundra, so let me explain - there's this big orangey yellow ball of fire in the sky, and down here in the southland it gets really hot and can bake your skin like you've been sitting in an oven!)
Mucho likes purple nails and purple cupcakes
Noisy, I had that problem off and on with the Bare Minerals stuff too. Someone told me it was because there was a tiny amount of corn starch in some of it (I think? and maybe it was just in the mineral veil or something?) and that some people had a mild allergy to it. I can't for the life of me remember who told me that, or even if that's what it was. I know that was profound and helpful. You're welcome
