Hey girls who actually know how to bake

I apologize in advance for my idiocy.

For those of you who bake cookies/treats for Christmas or gifts, how far in advance do you make 'em? Can I start making them them now and store them in their airtight jars or freeze them until closer to Christmas?

I'm leery to freeze them only because I'm just not familiar with it. And I'm no Betty Crocker.. will they still taste just as fresh?

  • You can absolutely freeze them! Just make sure they are well wrapped.

  • You can freeze them.  I've never done it b/c I'm fat and eat all the cookies right away, but my grandma does it all the time.  Put them in a tupperware that seals well to avoid freezer burn, and they should come out tasting just as good.

  • First and foremost, I love your siggy pic, it makees me giggle. :) As far as the baking goes, freezing them shouldn't affect their taste as long as they are frozen alone (as in, don't put something else in to freeze at the same time). I have also always heard to put some was paper between layers to help with separating t when it is time to take them out. Some people like to hold marathon baking sessions about a week before Christmas, but I generally find I am too busy, or just don't want to at that time, so just make 'em when the urge strikes and freeze away.

  • I usually don't freeze them, but like others have said, you definitely can. I've found that almost every type of cookie is good for up to a week if its put into an airtight container right after it cools to room temperature.
  • Totally okay to freeze them. My mom baked carrot cake, cheese cake, a whole bunch of cookies, and made eggrolls and froze it all. She did this like the first week in Nov. You never would have known. She's practically done all her Christmas cooking!

  • Oh yeah, and I second the wax paper.  Otherwise it can get impossible to separate them without crumbling.  Especially if you ice them.

  • I knew you ladies would lead me in the right direction :)

When it's time to package them up for gift giving, do I need to do anything special when I let them thaw? Just let them thaw completely & put them in the jars, right?

  • I would let them thaw completely before you put them in the jars to avoid condensation build up inside the jars.  But yeah, just take 'em out and let 'em thaw.

  • And if you happen to mail them out to people, the post office will ask you if there is anything perishable. Just say no, lol. I've always done that especially when they smell like gingerbread Confused
