Restaurant Recommendations needed
Hey ya'll! I'm an Atlanta (and H&F) Nestie. I'll be visiting Austin again next week for business. I'd love some recommendations for places to eat.
Last time I was in Austin over the summer, you gals gave me some great places. I ate at Chuy's and the Kerby Lane Cafe. I'll be staying near the airport, but I don't mind driving. I'm a foodie and open to almost any cuisine. I'd like to keep the price to about $25 for the entree because that's what my company will pay for.
Thanks....and come on over to the Atlanta board to say hi if you are ever in the area!
Re: Restaurant Recommendations needed
I'd recommend Guero's for Mexican food, and Home Slice (pizza) or Enoteca (awesome handmade italian). All are located in the South Congress area (just south of downtown).
I would check out the restaurants on south congress since you won't be too far - I haven't been to all of them so I'm sure someone else can chime in with a bigger list but I've heard these are good!

there's also a food trailer park if you're interested in that sort of thing. a mighty cone is good:

we've been to south congress cafe a few times, but it might be out of your budget. ;( we walked around while we were there and saw a new burger bar had opened up - the menu looked good:

have fun!
jinx.
Haha! Great minds think alike - thanks for posting the links for me . . . lol.
Sadlebred - the trailer food park is kind of cool also - lots of choices there for different types of food! I forgot to mention that one.
I have to proclaim an unpopular opinion: I don't like Guero's, and don't recommend it for out-of-towners. Maybe it's just what I usually like to order there, but every meal I've had there is always pretty bland.
I do love Garrido's, though, and recommend it often. Some of their entrees are beyond your price limit, but I like to order a variety of small plates (antojitos and bocaditos on the menu) when I go there.
I second the trailer food recommendation--there are so many great ones to choose from! I love Mighty Cone, Torchy's Tacos, Odd Duck Farm to Market, and Gordoughs (fancy doughnuts!).
Also, I've heard good things about but not yet tried: Jack Allen's Kitchen (probably pretty easy to get to from the area where you're staying).

I'm not really a fan of any tex-mex. even chuy's - I could take it or leave it (excluding the crack dip, I'll take that).
there, I said it.

I have to agree, I am not a big Guero's fan either. My absolute favorite Mexican place in town is Curras (on Oltorf)--I have LOVED everything I have gotten there. Hands down, that's the best to me.The tamales, tacos, enchiladas, and margaritas are all great.
Moonshine is also really good, and so is Olivia's on S. Lamar. La Condesa is very fancy Mexican place downtown that I've heard great things about but never been to, and there is always the Salt Lick out in Driftwood if you're looking for great barbecue.
