I am never never never allowed to buy tickets for anything ever again!

I am cursed at buying tickets. Here is the most recent two occurences:

#1 I buy tickets to see Ani DiFranco for SIL birthday in April. I bought the tickets for the wrong day. Fortunately, I notice right away and fixed it.

#2 I buy tickets to spend a few days in San Diego for my mom's Christmas/Birthday present. I am going in April. I don't check the calendar. This morning I put the flight in my calendar. I see that something is scheduled right in the middle of my trip--the Ani DiFranco concert. Gah! I have to spend $75 to reschedule a $100 plane ticket!

Now these could be considered unfortunate occurences if it weren't for two other times I have screwed up the tickets:

#3 For Thanksgiving last year, I buy tickets to San Diego the day before Thanksgiving. I accidentally buy tickets that have a layover in LA. We get stuck in LA for 6 hours!

#4 For our honeymoon, I made the tickets in my married name. My passport has my maiden name. Every time we go through an airport, we get an intense security check.

The moral to this story: I am never never never allowed to buy tickets for anything ever again!

  • We usually buy through Southwest and book as two one-ways so a change can be made to one without affecting the other (like if one way dings, you cancel and re-book at the lower rate) but my mom's accidentally bought two one ways in the same direction.  She's also ended up with a round trip in the wrong direction (like SJC-SAN when she meant to come from SAN to SJC)
  • I'm sorry for your troubles, but I had to giggle at you a little bit :)
I'd rather be rock climbing or playing volleyball

  • Somebody needs to ask for a calendar for Christmas!
My favorite place on earth: The Amargosa Valley.

I did this when booking out honeymoon! We had to email the itinerary to DH's brother who we are staying with in NY and when I opened the emails to check the times I realized what I had done. Thankfully southwest had only upped the price by $5 and it is super easy to change tickets with them.

But if they'd skipped a leg, the airline could have canceled their whole return flight.

Yes. We had that thought too! But we couldn't rent a car for just one way. In fact, we couldn't rent any car! We also could have taken a train, but the next available train would have taken...6 hours! I almost called my uncle who lived in LA, to pick us up!
