Hey,

RE: the pill postings. So I'm looking around at different reviews of different pills -- seems like they all have some kind of slight symptom, but some are better than others.I know different bodies different effects etc., but I think there may be some that have certain effects overall.

For me, I was on tri-sprintec for several years, liked it overall, but did get nausea the first couple days in the mornings (almost like morning sickness), and always gained about 3 lbs and have some tummy bloat during week 3 (but the rest of the month it would go down and be fine).

Long story short, I told my doc about the nausea and he rec.'d Yaz. Being cheap, I went on the generic of it, Gianvi, and it was a *terrible*...gained 3-4 lb the whole month w/bloating even though I'm trying to diet/exercise more than usual even (I'm pretty healthy overall). Also I was very lethargic, and rather moody/needy, which DH noticed :P.

I made the decision after 3 months of this to start on the actual name-brand Yaz, so we'll see how that goes.

I'd like to make an informed decision if I have to switch again. Looking for one that has minimal weight gain and tiredness. (I'd actually rather deal with the nausea than be moody & getting bigger...) Thanks!! :)

  • The generic of Yaz is wonderful for me, and honestly, there is no REAL answer to your questions. I've been on 4 different pills. It is a trial by error process you will have to deal with.

  • Cyclessa works great for me. It improves my skin, and hasn't caused me to gain weight.

  • Ovule is amazing especially since I have endometriosis. The price is reasonable and it keeps my eggs from dropping so I'm saving eggs for when my DH and I are ready to have children. :)

  • Aviane AKA Luttera (I think I spelled them right).  It's a low dose pill.

  • Ortho Tri-cyclen!  Been on it for over ten years and never thought about switching.  It's great for my skin and doesn't wreak havoc on my hormones.  The generic version, TriNessa, works just as well.  And if you are looking for an even lower dose, they also have Ortho Tri-cyclen Lo.
  • I took Seasonal and HATED it!  It is one of those 3 month pills before you have a period.  I went from that to Yaz, and really liked it.  I didn't have any side effects, or atleast I don't think I did, I was coming of of Seasonal where I bled like crazy, had suicidal thoughs, and was incredibly depressed and in pain.  This was a few years ago and was acutally taking it to control my periods not as actual BC.  That experience scared me like crazy, and am not afraid to take pills.  I also know that I will forget to take them anyway.  Now I am on Mirena and it is doing a great job with me, no side effects other than no periods!  And I don't have to think about it every day!
  • I have been on Yaz for over a year and absolutely love it.  The only minor annoyance is an occasional spotting at exactly 2 weeks into the pill pack.  Pharmacy switched me to the Gianvi generic and I hated it!

I just got done w/ the 3 month supply of Gianvi and am now back on Yaz.  I could tell a huge difference in some many areas within days.  No more super crabby moods for no reason, I was constantly tired, etc.  I agree w/ pp that its all based on trial and error.  GL!

  • I'm on Ovcon, generic Balziva, now and I'm generally happy with it. It's better than the other packs I've been on: Ortho Tri Cyclen, Seasonique, and a few others. I spot terribly so I'm limited on what types of pills I can use, and this is working thus far. My sex drive is lower, but most pills list that as a possible side effect.

I was on Depo for years and loved it, but you gain a tremendous amount of weight and it can effect your bone density.

  • Right now I am on Kariva, which is a generic brand for Mircette. I like it, except that it makes me have almost no sex drive.

Before Kariva, I was on Yaz. I liked it also, but it made me have even lower of a sex drive than Kariva.

Before that I was on Ortho Tri Cyclin Lo, I loved everything about it, except my insurance ran out. So my doctor just switched me from Kariva to the generic version of Ortho Tri Cyclin Lo, hoping that I can have a sex drive again. Being a newlywed with no sex drive sucks!

  • When I was on the bill I was using the patch Ortho Evra which I really did like. My periods were really light, I had no cramps or nausea and very little side effects. Plus I liked the fact that I only had to change the patch every week instead of take a pill everyday. However, once I got off the patch I lost some weight (I guess I had been pretty bloated on the patch) and I have a better sex drive now, so I'm thinking that might have killed it somewhat for me,but I did not notice these side effects while I was on it. It was probably the best one that I was on. I was on Yaz and I did not like the way it made me feel.

  • I know you are asking about birth control pills, but I just wanted to rave about how wonderful Mirena IUD is. I love this birth control because I never have to worry about taking pills (I'm forgetful with those), and I no longer have periods! I was on BCP's (a few brands I can't remember and Yasmin). I HATE all BCP's. I just felt different after being on them for a few months. Mirena has been wonderful. It lasts for 5 years, and when you want to start trying to conceive they say you're good to go as soon as you get it removed. Just thought I'd throw that out there.

  • So, technically it's not a pill, but I was on Nuvaring for a while and I absolutely loved it. Yaz did absolutely nothing for me and made me very moody and I had no sex drive whatsoever. It was also convenient as I hate taking a pill everyday and like to avoid any medication if possible. It didn't hurt, didn't make me gain weight and was very helpful in alleviating most symptoms of my pms and my issues.
