Some days I wish we rented

Or bought a house that wasn't "flipped". That would have been a wise idea. The people that "flipped" our house really had no idea what they were doing across the board. We've had to repair so many stupid little things, mainly plumbing related since we moved in.

Our upstairs shower is a fiberglass insert thing. Since day one we had a hunch that they didn't properly stabilize underneath the bottom shower pan. When you stand in there, you can literally feel 2x4's around the drain and the outside edges. It feels like there isn't anything in between.

So of course, the other night I'm taking a shower and step on one of the thinner areas and I hear a big crack. Great. I felt around and didn't actually feel a crack with my hand so I thought maybe it'd be ok. Well this morning I felt the crack, that's about two inches long. Wonderful. No more showers in that bathroom until we get it fixed. All I need is for water to just start pouring into our first floor bathroom.

DH is learning how to install shower liners via youtube as we speak. I'm so pissed at our house right now Angry

  • That blows. I hate when people half-ass things just because they feel it doesn't effect them. douchebags.

  • I know how you feel.

Although our house definitely wasn't a "flip," the man who owned the home before us was a complete idiot.  He installed cabinets in the bathroom upside down and the furnace has carbon monoxide leaking into the house.  He also installed the attic stairs wrong and DH was almost killed one day climbing up them.

Each and every single day is an adventure in home ownership for us as well!

  • Seriously? That's crap. Will it be a tough fix?

  • These things make me glad we live in a condo.  We do own, and are responsible for some repairs, but we don't deal with plumbing, gas, etc.  And no outdoor maintenance.

Yes and no. DH tried pulling out just the bottom part so we could replace just that. Unfortunately the way their made didn't allow that, so he's having to pull everything out. The idiots didn't put any of the correct cement board (or whatever that stuff is) to avoid moisture and mold. So we've decided to just pull it all out and put in tile. Starting from scratch will be a lot easier than trying to fix all the wrongness that is that shower. And actually will be about the same amount of money, surprisingly.

  • That is so frustrating!!!

It's a pet peeve of mine when people do stuff like this half ass. Not ok.
