Canned tomatoes - which is better

Organic tomatoes in a can or non-organic in a box?  The only boxed tomatoes I've found have been at Whole Foods and they are strained.....I don't think this is what I want.

Thanks!
Heather

Re: Canned tomatoes - which is better

  • I like Pomi boxed tomatoes, non-organic, but I can find them both chopped and strained at a local Italian grocery.

  • I'll have to see if I can't locate an Italian grocer.

I'm speaking more of the health factor.......cans contain BPA but non organic contain pesticide............if I had to choose, not sure, from a health perspective, which is better.

  • Next summer, buy a box of organic or heirloom tomatoes from a local grower, hole up yourself in the kitchen all day and can your own.Stick out tongue

But that doesn't help you any now, huh?LOL

  • Eden Organic can liners are BPA-free and they taste fantastic.  They are a staple in my pantry (diced, whole, and especially crushed).
  • Yup, we do a combo of the PP.  Can our own in the summer, and use Eden Organics when we run out, or if we're making a large meal and don't want to burn through a lot of our canned tomatoes in one sitting.
