During Black Friday I found an amazing deal on one of those battery powered car things for little kids. I thought it was so cute and always wanted one when I was a kid and since the price was great I picked it up for my nephew. I had WalMart send it to my SIL and she just got it yesterday...
Turns out, her Dad saw the exact same deal and picked up the exact same car for Ollie!!! He's really proud about it and he's been struggling since the recession and is finally getting back on his feet and wanting to go all out for Christmas so I told her to just go ahead and return the car I sent and get him something else. I know he'll still have his car and it'll be really cool (and it has a 200 pound weight limit so, dammit, I'm riding the darn thing!) but I'm oddly sad it won't be coming from me. I wanted to be the cool Aunt.
Now all I have to give him is a 5 foot tall floor puzzle of the human anatomy. I bought it as a joke for my brother and SIL (both scientists) but it's not exactly a "fun" gift. So does anyone have a gift idea for a 1 year old for about $50?
Re: Found the Perfect Gift, Now Bummed...
Aww, that's too bad that you both got him the same thing! That's nice of you though to be thoughtful and let her dad get it for him.
As far as gifts go, what about starting a savings account for him? I know that may seem boring and practical, but if you started putting money in it now, you'll definitely be the cool aunt when he turns 18 (or whatever age you wanna give it to him)!
This is what we got our nephew last year, and he was 1 last Christmas also.
Just keep in mind that he is never going to remember what you get him this year. To be honest with you, this year we got our nephew something kind of boring (by our standards) but it's something my SIL wanted him to have, so we got it because even at 2 he still won't remember it. Next year will be the year we really have to get him something awesome, lol.
My nephew already has several very well-tended savings accounts.
I contribute to one with my parents that we started when he was born so we're already doing that.
But I LOVE that Radio Flyer!!! I'll see if my Mom wants to go in on that (we were going in together on the car). Another idea I just had was a musical instrument. My SIL is really musical and my brother was when he was younger so I imagine Ollie will have some skills. I just found the cutest little piano on the Mini Social for $50!
