Re: Macy's 8th Floor
just another reason Macy's sucks.
Well it was the Dayton's 8th floor, and then they got pulled into Target, then got sold....it's such an uber local thing and with dept stores dying for the last 20 years or whatever, I'm not surprised they are saving the cash on building a new set.
I will say however, spending money for our wills at Dorsey & Whitney has scored well for us because we get front row, warm indoor seating for the Holidazzle parade plus pizza and hot chocolate every year!
My DH runs the bakery section up there every year! All he hears are people complaining about how it's the "same thing" again.
He has been there for 14 years this January, and has told me that it has to do with several factors.
1. Macy's New York now runs the Midwest Division, and they haven't changed their story in 20 years, so why change this one?
2. They didn't want to pay licensing fees to Disney, etc for rights to the stories. So that is why they wrote "Day in the life of an Elf"
I will admit, I still go every year, but only because my DH works so hard, and it makes his day when I go visit him at work....
I do agree that it needs to change, but try telling that to Macy's New York...they don't care...
the copyright is long expired on most fairy tales. They can be downloaded for free from Barnes and Noble and Project Gutenburg.
I'm sorry, I didn't mean to cause a riot...I am just repeating what I was told to him by the company.. I honestly think it is because they just don't want to spend the money changing it every year anymore, and they just want to line their bank account with more money...They year the start charging for this is the year I quit going period!
Once again, I do apologize ladies, like I said, I was just repeating what he was told by management.
I was so mad when I found out about this a few weeks ago. I wanted to make this a fun tradition, but I'm not going to see the same display over and over again. And, this one is totally lame anyway. It's WAY too short. I swore we wouldn't go this year, but Olivia was not quite 1 last year, so I know she'd get a kick out of it this year...but I don't want to give them our "business".
Like a PP...I have so many fond memories of seeing the new, fun display every year. It's sad that we can't carry that on with our kids.
