*GardenPeach* and other Decatur/Midtown Experts!

Are there any areas to stay away from in Decatur (as far as housing) any suggestions on best areas? I like some of the stuff I have found in the Ansley Park area, is this good?

I may be from ATL but I have no idea when it comes to that side of town! Help! TIA!

  • And to answer your Q, Ansley Park is a nice area Yes - my brother lives not far from there, further down Monroe near Piedmont Park.

Decatur is generally wonderful. Smile I would be a little more careful as you get farther east - there are parts of Avondale Estates that are nice, and there are parts that get a bit sketchy.

    this this this!!!

  • I live in Midtown, a few blocks south and west of the Piedmont park.  Ansley Park is wonderful. I would stay north of  4th street and go from West Peachtree all the way to the highlands (west).

I love living in here. I walk to the grocery store, the park, restaurants and movies.

In Decatur I would try to stay around the Downtown Decatur area.

Ditto.  I also live near Piedmont Park and love it.  Ansley Park is really nice, though less walkable.

I have lots of friends who live in Decatur and love it.  Oakhurst is also a good option, as long as you don't go too far south.  GL!

This.  Do you have kids?  I don't remember...you'll definitely want to check the schools.  City of Decatur schools are good.  Avondale HS is terrible.  Rumor is it may be closed next year anyways.  All Decatur addresses are not equal...def stay closer to downtown and north of 20, IMO.  Glad you're rejoining us!!!

I will be SO glad to be back! We'll def have to ride- horses AND bikes! LOL. Thanks to everyone for all the T & P. Me being the forever skeptic- I am trying to hold back any official  excitement BUT it's just the opportunity of a lifetime for DH and with a first week of Jan start date- we have to start making plans.

We don't have kids yet, so schools are too much of a concern. We love the Ansley Park area so we'll prob look there, however, I'm a little concerned how far east/south it is and we don't know where I will be working.

SO much to think about but as most of you know, although I left Atl physically,  I left my heart in Atlanta.
