How often do you buy fruit??

Ok this might be a stupid question, but I've been going to the fruit market every Monday night to buy fruit for the week, and by Wednesday/Thursday it is bad already. I dunno if I'm getting bad fruit, or if this is normal. lol.

Someone help!

Re: How often do you buy fruit??

  • I think your buying bad fruit. It should atleast stay good for a week or more. Berries seem to go fast though so I put them in the fridge. What kind of fruit are you buying that goes so fast?

  • I usually try to buy one type of fruit every time I go to buy groceries. I don't usually buy more than one type at a time because I know either I'll forget I bought it until I smell something bad in the refrigerator or I'll tell myself I'm going to eat it and when I finally do want it, it's bad. I've been buying big bags of oranges because I know it's something I can eat two or three at a time (so it will for sure be eaten) and that it won't spoil as quickly as something like bananas or strawberries.

  • We go to the farmer's markets twice a week for veggies & fruit. We usually eat fruit within 2-3 days, otherwise it get a little soft and doesn't taste as great.

  • Usually my strawberries are fine. But like my grapes were bad within 1 day! I got plums, they were bad too. I know how to pick fruit out (I think)... I just can't believe it! Maybe I"ll have to start going organic. Or Frozen!

Hmm, do you buy this fruit at the same place? If so, I'd switch it up. Grapes and plums should definitely last a lot longer than that!

  • I buy fruits and veggies 2 times a week, but it is easy for me to do when I have a whole foods and trader joe's in my backyard. I also only buy a few at a time. Your grapes and plums should last about 4-5 days.

  • it depends on what it is, but i usually only buy fruit every other week, unless we run out. We live off apples I just keep them cool, not out on the counters.

  • ok so here is my question. So you put fruit in the fridge? or keep it out? Kevin and I have different opinions. I'm thinking this might be the problem.

I do buy it at the same place, and it's cheap-- I think I have figured out why lol.

  • I keep berries even strawberries, cherries, grapes, peaches and any fruit that is soft or soft skin in fridge. Bananas, apples, oranges, pears etc I leave out. I don't know it works for me and I can usually keep it good till its gone.

  • We keep all of our fruit, minus bananas, in the fridge.  Our fruit usually lasts a long time.  Strawberries need to be eaten within 5 days or so, but grapes, apples, peaches, oranges last a long time.  In fact, I bought grapes about 2 weeks ago and I think they're still good.  We keep them in the crisper, dunno if that makes a difference.  Occasionally, I'll put them in the Lock & Lock containers that we have and that keeps them fresh too.
