Unbelievable how dirty my floors get in just 1 day

Last night we swept, vacuumed, and mopped the entire main level (about 800 sqft).  I just got done sweeping and mopping for tonight and I can't believe how much dirt found it's way on my floors in the past 24 hours.  DH and DS1 were wearing shoes in the house today, but it's insane, our border collie/australian shepherd wasn't even here most of the day.  I would love the new Neato Robotics XV-11 vacuum (much more advanced Roomba, won the Grand Award in Popular Science in this months issue).

    My parents' Australian Shepherd is living with us for 2 months. We have 2 smaller dogs so we aren't used to that kind of shedding. It's amazing how much dirtier our floors are getting with the extra dog! We love her to death, but we vacuum at least once a day, if not more often.

    Thats how I feel!! As soon as I get the floors swept and mopped I swear they are dirty again! Part of it is the color of our flooring its like a natural bamboo color and shows everything. We are replacing them soon with a pecan color. I cant wait! I also want the Neato Robotics vacuum!! I am so tired of cleaning it on a daily basis to keep it presentable.

    Same problem here.  We have two cats (so fur plus kitty litter dust), plus neither the front nor the back door of our house seal well (we rent), so there's always dirt blowing in. 

    We have a Roomba, and it saves us so much time...when we get home from work we set it up in the bedroom, and when it's done in there (and once we're done with dinner) we let it loose in the dining room/living room.  Then we sweep the kitchen-hallway-bathroom the old fashioned way.  Every day is almost overkill, but if we skip a day, it gets bad so fast!

    The Neato Robot looks cool...we'll keep that in mind for someday when Roomba needs a replacement.  (And it's good to see more competition in the home robotics market!)

    My floors are always dirty and I don't even have kids or pets of my own!

    I vacuum and mop a lot. Sometimes twice a day.

    We just have a lot of in and out traffic.

    My floors are always dirty too- mostly courtesy of our dog.  Love her, but can't stand the shedding.  (She had short hair as a puppy- don't know what happened!)  I actually tried vacuuming her today after I brushed her, because I thought that might help.  She didn't appreciate it AT ALL.

    In our last place we noticed a lot of dust on the floor soon after cleaning. Changing the filter on the HVAC unit helped a lot.

    do you have good welcome mats? its amazing how much a good mat at the entries can help keep dirt out. when its really icky, we use a dirty bath towel on the floor, especially when we dog sit. we will lay a towel out before we take her outside, so when she comes in, we can stop her on the towel a moment to dry her paws (and our shoes)

    Using the Furminator to brush/comb the pets makes a HUGE difference.  I have two big dogs with double coats and even though the Furminator was kind of expensive compared to other brushes, it is worth it.  I would compare it to a Dyson compared to other vacs--costs more, but does a lot more.
