Pen Ink on ENTIRE load of laundry

I can't believe I did this. ugh. I pulled out a load of laundry earlier only to discover I had left a pen in one of the pant pockets. Neither my husband or myself remember seeing ink when they were put in the dryer, but the ink is set and the clothes are dry.

ANYONE know how we can get this ink out of an entire load of laundry? It would take an eternity to try to spot clean everything with hairspray. Is there a formula we can wash all of this with?

Re: Pen Ink on ENTIRE load of laundry

  • I haven't had much luck getting pen out of laundry after it has been through the dryer.

    Possibly something like oxyclean?

Sorry- hope someone else has more ideas.

  • When this happened to me I had to get new clothes. I worked and worked at it and nothing helped. Someone later told me you can use WD-40 to (spot)  remove the ink, then Dawn to remove the WD-40. I don't know if anything will work after it's been through the drier. Sorry.

  • When we had this happen, we basically triaged the clothes and decided what we were going to try to save.  DH's dress shirt that was absolutely covered in ink--count as a loss.  Dark T-shirt with some ink on it--treat.  Underwear/pajama pants--leave as is.  We cleaned with alcohol and were able to get most of the ink out of some clothes (the alcohol also removed most of the ink residue from inside the dryer).

We started out with rubbing alcohol (per Martha Stewart), but we started running low so we switched to an old bottle of cheap vodka we had hanging around from college, which worked about as well for us.

  • DH did this on accident to a load of my favorite whites.

It was a full load of whites that was being washed to take on our honeymoon.  This happened 4 hours before we needed to leave for the airport at 11 o'clock at night.

White is my favorite color (boring, I know).

I've never seen DH so scared to tell me something...lol.  We were not even marrried for 24 hours!

    I actually wasn't that mad.

  • This happened to me once.    I used the little red Spray and Wash bottle to spot each stain.    It took forever and several washes but I managed to get it all out.    Just spray and run in the washer then check and spray again.   Repeat until clean.    Somethings may not be worth saving(heavily inked) but its worth a try.   Good Luck
