I got married in August and I've decided I really don't need to keep my wedding dress, it's not like I plan to wear it again ![]()
I'm just wondering if anyone else has sold theirs and if so where did you list it? I live in the GTA and I was thinking about craigslist and kijiji but I have some concerns about strangers coming into my home. I would expect that anyone buying a dress off one of these sites is going to want/need to try it on before they actually buy it so should I just let them come to my home or meet them at theirs? Or does anyone have any other suggestions of where to sell my dress?
Also, I paid approximately $2000 for my dress, in your opinion how much should I ask for?
Re: Selling my Wedding dress...
I thought about selling my dress as well and decided I didn't want to go through the hassle. I ended up donating my dress to bridesagainstbreastcancer.org, and I wrote it off on my taxes, I got a decent write-off, and it felt nice to contribute to a good cause.
I've never tried using the Trash to Treasure board on The Nest, but maybe try selling it there? Or try selling on preownedweddingdresses.com or oncewed.com. If nothing else, you can check those sites to see what other people are selling their same dresses (or at least same designers) for, and get an idea of how to price yours.
Did you have to send it to Milwaukee or is there a canadian address for them as well?
Sorry, didn't even think of that. I sent it from my US address, to Milwaukee before I moved to Canada. I justed googled and didn't find a Canadian address, so yes I imagine it might be a little pricey to send to Wisconsin depending on how heavy it is and how big the box is. I'm sure with a little research it would be feasible to find a similar organization in Canada if you are considering donation.
I found this one for Canada. (Toronto) Also goes to Cancer support. http://www.thebridesproject.com/

I have had really good experiences with Kijiji. I do make sure to put on my ad serious inquires only and that seems to weed out the people that are probably wasting your time. Also ask them to phone you rather than email. If they want the dress, they will ohone. I find I get too many randoms emailing that never follow through.
The price depends on how fast you want it to move and what kind of condition it is in. If its in good condition and you don't want to hang on to it for too long I would say no more than $450. I see lots of people that are trying to sell used wedding dresses for $750 and up and there ads are months old.
Good Luck!
This - I had both my daughter's christening gown, and a little suit made for my son's christening out of my wedding dress. They were even more special, because DH's grandmother (so the kids' great grandmother) made the outfits. I never would have worn the dress again, but I am hoping the outfits become keepsake that perhaps get used again.
