Ugh

So I just listened to a voicemail from a company I completely forgot I applied for a position with - I'm not kidding when I say I think I submitted an application probably 2-3 months ago.  They want me to come in for an interview.  Can I just say I am really over interviews with my 32 week belly?  What should I do?  Just suck it up and go (even though they'll probably take one look at the belly and cut me out of the line up) or discuss my thoughts with the HR lady?

I just know the timing is getting to the point where it's so weird.  If they are wanting to place someone in this position soon, in my case they would basically train me to have me leave for at least 6 weeks maternity.

Re: Ugh

  • are you really interested in the position? might be worth talking to the HR person!
  • If you are interested in the job, I say go in and talk with them.  Maybe they aren't looking to bring you on immediately and can wait until after your maternity leave.
  • If you're interested in it, I agree, go talk to them.

If it is just going to cause you more stress, ditch it.

  • I'd say it at least warrants a call back. If they haven't called you for 2-3 mo, then that makes me think they aren't in a super hurry to fill the position. Maybe they'll wait for your maternity leave?
  • It never hurts to call! I would see what they have to say.

  • If you are qualified for the position, they legally aren't allowed to discriminate against you because you are pregnant.  Couldn't hurt to go on the interview.  Like PP said - if they aren't in a big hurry and they fall in love with you, maybe they will hold it until you are done with your leave?

    Definitely this!

I may comment about being 32 weeks on the phone-that way you aren't wasting your time if they completely cut you off the potential list.

I agree to mention it on the phone, but unless they're idiots they won't cut you out of the pool (to your knowledge) at that point b/c that's pretty strong evidence of pg discrimination.  Once they've interviewed you they can claim you're not qualified and you'd have a harder time proving discrimination, but they pretty much have to interview you now that they've contacted you.
