Question for those who blog
So, I've recently realized that my blog kind of sucks, aesthetically speaking. And I know some of you on here have really awesome blogs (MrsMEW comes to mind, but I know there are more). So my question is, how do I go about making mine look decent? I have no idea how to do a personalized header, multiple pages, all that stuff. Is there a "blogs for people who are dumber than dummies" site or book I could use? Any help is appreciated!!
Re: Question for those who blog
I have no idea how to do anything on blogger. I used to use blogger but got annoyed because it was difficult.
I really like wordpress. It's really easy to add pictures, and add multiple pages.
My header took me forever. I basically made a collage of pictures and then cropped it down to size.. it was hard, and i don't know how else to explain it.. Moonstone might be able to help you- her blog is nice.
I have a blog post I found awhile ago saved in my favorites. It discusses creating blog headers with Picasa (free Google download).

Yeah, I switched to wordpress to get multiple pages. However, I think now on blogspot you can do that, but I have no idea how.
There will be different themes you can choose from, so pick one that is basic and then start adding in features. These are called "widgets" in wordpress, but I'm not sure what in blogspot.
I would suggest making your background either white or black - something that is easier on the eyes.
Then I would make a cool header picture - PhotoShop would be nice, but it is complicated program. Paint will do the job.
I would suggest starting by googling "headers" and then things you like - then you could tinker with the image and add in your own.

Thanks! I have been trying to find out how to make a cute photo header for forever and this might help more since MrsMEW suggested it too and I already have Picasa!
My silly Lily is almost 4.
Awww, thanks for the shout-out!
Blogger actually has come a long way in about the last year with features you can change to tweak the look of your blog. If you click on "design" from the dashboard page, then "template designer," you can really do a lot with it. They have a lot more themes/backgrounds/layouts to choose from, and you can use the "advanced" tab to play around with the colors and really customize it. It's nice because you can see a preview of how your blog will look as you play with it, but nothing actually saves until you click "apply to blog" so you have some freedom to experiment.
Basically what I did for mine was just that for the purple background and basic layout - I used one of their basic templates and changed all the colors to what I wanted. Then, I created my own header. The background picture for my header is a photo we took of the skyline, and I uploaded it to Picnik.com to make it B&W and put the border on it. I then saved it to my computer and added the title in PowerPoint, then uploaded it into the blog. I think it took some playing around to get it just the right size, but I'm not positive - I just remember fussing over it for a bit.
You can also add separate pages now in Blogger, under the "posting" area. That's how I put in my About, Contact, etc. pages.
I know there are tons of websites out there with pre-made layouts but I haven't done much experimenting with those. I do like the background you have on there now!
If I can help with anything let me know!
