I'm looking for a recommendation for an provider in the north or northwest metro.  Anyone ever do this?

Re: Acupuncture? Anyone do this?

  • I go to Three Treasures Community Acupuncture in Minneapolis and love it.  If you haven't heard of community acupuncture before, it's done in a group setting.  They stick to your head, arms, hands, legs and feet so you're completely clothed the whole time.  It took me a couple sessions to really feel comfortable but now I love it.

Three Treasures has a large room with 2 circles of 5-6 recliners each.  One set is by the window and the other set is kind of behind this wall area so it's darker.  They have soothing music going and blankets (or you can bring your own if you want).  You check yourself in, pick a chair and wait for the person to come over.  It's a husband/wife team.  I prefer the husband but they're both great.  They come around and check your pulses, talk to you for a few minutes and then put the needles in.  You can stay for as short or long as you want.  I'm there for almost 2 hours some days just because I feel like I need it and it's so relaxing.  I'm going for menstrual cramps and I'm coming to my 3rd period on it.  And what a difference!  I used to spend 2 days in bed with pain so bad that I'd puke and now I don't need Aleve at all.  The cost is really reasonable compared to having a private setting.

I went to  this place a few years ago (I went to Woodbury, but they have locations all over).  It definitely worked but there were too many negatives for me.  It got to be prohibitively expensive, I didn't feel very comfortable with the acupuncturist and the setting was too doctor's office-y so I couldn't really relax.

You could also try the Penny George Institute.  I haven't been there for acupuncture but all the other services I've had there have been really good.

You have my stupid thyroid to thank.  Most of my knowledge is of the alternative medicine variety, that's for sure.  Conventional medicine and I aren't really on the same page these days.

I read somewhere that community acupuncture is supposed to be more effective because everybody's energy or whatever is floating around helping everyone else.  Who knows.  On some level, it's all kind of kooky even though I love it.  Surprise

  • I did it at MN Community Acupuncture in Edina when I was pregnant and really enjoyed it.

I did a session just last week at Anoka Massage and Pain Therapy and that one was even more relaxing because you got to lay down instead of just recline in a chair.

This is one of the places I was checking out.  Thanks!
