Dream house

Do you have a room or rooms that you dream of having in your "dream house"

I have two- first a beautiful kitchen where I can deplace all my beautiful dishware. With a large pantry and plenty of storage. I would also love a large island/ work space, with stools where we can eat breakfast. Right now we live in an apartment and our kitchen is so ugly and user UNfriendly. Our stove and frige and harvest yellow and the washer and dryer are in the kitchen! A nice kitchen is my #1 when we buy a house. I love cooking ane spend a lot of time in there so I think I deserve a nice area :)

The second dream room is a craft room were I can have all my sewing stuff set up and don't have to worry about putting everything away at night just to take it out in the morning. I think I would craft more if I had my own space for it :)

Re: Dream house

  • I have always had 3 requirements for my dream house:

    1.  A big bath tub

    2.  A big wrap around porch

    3.  A swimming pool (with someone else to take care of it, of course)

I have never had any of them, but long to take a hot long bath where my legs don't hang over the side, sit on a big porch in a rocking chair, and swim in my own pool.

  • I would like a big bedroom with a his and hers ensuite.  I love my private bathroom time.  Also a big dressing room/wardrobe.

I like the house we are in now, it's very liveable.  But I do sometimes dream of something bigger with a bit more character.

  • I custom built my dream home 6 years ago. It is everything I ever wanted, however now I kinda wish I could make some changes. I would definately add a 3rd bathroom, a movie/theatre room, move the washer and dryer to the 2nd floor instead of the basement, add 2 more fireplaces, and move the house atleast an hour northwest of where it is because DH and I are both community over 2 hours each day.  We are planning on selling and building again next summer.  I built this house with my exfiance and DH and I will definately build something a little different!
  • DH and I have been talking lately about our "forever house", which is the house we hope to buy in several years that we'll raise the kiddos in. I would love to have a good sized kitchen with plenty of counter space. The real priority is that we have a good family room (preferably in a basement) that I can decorate Dallas Cowboys themed for DH. I'm thinking blue walls with white breadboard at the bottom and silver star wall hangings. Also, we'd love to have a large walk-in shower and garden tub in the master bath. I'd like to have a loft for the office and a big fenced-in backyard. We're moving into a 2 br. townhouse in Jan. which will be a huge step up from our 1br. apt right now. Unfortunately, since we're moving back to the Chicago area, we are years away from buying even a tiny house.

  • My dream house would have a three-season porch, at least 1 1/2 bathrooms with the main one having a huuuge tub, and a magnificent kitchen much like the original poster described. Dishwasher required. Two bedrooms minimum. It'd also need a large fenced-in yard for our dog. Said yard would have a fire pit and maybe a deck. With room for a garden.

Also, a garage! Street parking can suck it.

We're in a one bedroom apartment right now. It's going to be a while before we can buy a house,  but I'm hoping to upgrade to a larger apartment or maybe a duplex as soon as we can afford it.

  • Oooh I love this thread :-)

I demand a huge, well-designed, and functional gorgeous kitchen.  I want a place to create in!

Also, DH and I want a library.  Floor to ceiling books, and an old fashioned globe somewhere, and comfy chairs.  Lots of natural light....

A big closet in the master bedroom...for me...and for him!

And a fireplace.  I just love fireplaces.

Hard to come by this for us in the Bay Area...but that's what I'd love.

  • Genius thread!! I love it!!

First of all, my dream house is in Atlanta, GA, not NY.

It has a kitchen where the sink is placed right by the window... I love doing dishes and look outside the window!

It has a library - a small room where only a comfy chair, a sofa, and a coffee table can fit... all walls are covered with shelves from floor to ceiling.

It has a screened porch, where we can put in a fire pit in the winter and a large enough backyard for me to build a small greenhouse and some raised beds...

dreaming is awesome.. oh, and congrats to the girl who built her dream home!!!

  • My dream house would have a large front porch with rockers on it.  I also would like 5 bedrooms which seems like a lot but I would use them all.  Right now we have a master, guest and craft room and I am really sad about having to give up my guest and craft rooms when we have kids.  I also would love a master suite with a sitting area and a gigantic kitchen with a 6 burner viking stove.  I will probably never get this in NJ which is why I am working on buying a sleeper sofa for my basement so we can use the guest room for our kids.  (I am still holding onto the craft room as long as I can.)

  • We love our current house, but maybe someday we'll buy a bigger house with a few upgrades:

    1)  2 car garage!  We have 1 car now and I get to use it, but I feel so bad DH parks outside.  This is a MUST for Boston!

    2)  More bedrooms.  We'll have to give up our office when we have kids and I have no idea where we'll put it!

    3)  Bigger yard and a landscaping crew to take care of it (we can't handle more than we have now)

    4)  We have a dining room which I love, but can I wish for the money to actually furnish it?  I doubt we'll use it much, but my dream house has a beautiful dining room set and is always perfect.  A girl can dream right?

    5)  A nicer residential neighborhood with sidewalks and friendly kids/neighbors.
