XP: Extended warranty on fitness equipment?

Hey everyone,

My H and I are looking to get an elliptical and there are some good prices on Amazon and Walmart.com.  They both offer extended warranties for fitness equipment and I was wondering if anyone had any experience with either these two companies or a similar type warranty?  It seems like it would be a good idea to make sure the equipment lasts.

What do you think?  Any advice?

Thanks!

Re: XP: Extended warranty on fitness equipment?

  • We bought a Sole elliptical 2 years ago this month and bought a 3 year warranty. I'm glad we did. We use it all the time, and just now it's starting to make some noises so I was going to dig out the warranty and have someone come out and take a look at it.

So I don't have experience with the companies you mentioned, but warranty wise I think if you're spending decent money on it, its worth it.

  • I bought a treadmill from Sears 5 years ago. I decided to get the service package which included a maintenance visit once a year. I haven't run into any major problems, but now that the service contract is about to expire I'm considering renewing, just because the treadmill is all paid for and it would be quite expensive to have them come fix it if something were to happen, without the service plan. If you're going to make that kind of investment, then spend a little more to ensure that it will continue to work.

  • We never buy extended warranties on anything. Here is a link to a transcript of question placed to a radio show about money, asking about extended warranties.
