Apartment Broker/Agent

Those that live or moved to Boston, did you use an Agent for your apartment search? We are moving from out of state and even though we have 6 months to figure it all out, I think an agent will help guide us and take us to apartments we wouldnt find on our own.

Any suggestions welcome.

Re: Apartment Broker/Agent

  • I did not but I knew the area well enough to navigate it on my own.  We also have a few months up here before we had to get a place (we stayed with family) so we were in a little different situtation.  It might be helpful depending on the time of year you are moving up.  In the summer A LOT of places will become available because it's such a college city- it might be a little harder to find a lot of openings in the spring/fall but I could be wrong :) GL!

You're absolutely correct.  I actually am a broker and I'd say 80% of our rental business happens from May-Sept.  The other seven months are just a difficult time on both sides.  People looking to rent have a hard time finding a place they want, since the inventory is so low, and people trying to rent their units have a hard time finding a tenant.

If you can at all help it, try moving sometime in that window.  It will make things a whole lot easier on you.

  • Thanks for the feedback, our time window is late May early June... but flexible. We need to sell a house in another state, I realize this will not all workout perfectly as far as timing. But on the trips we do have for apartment hunting, I think it would be helpful to have someone guiding us and providing insight that we cant figure out online. I mean I can pour over apt listings and read reviews but its one of those things that you just need to see for yourself and see the area etc.
