I'm making my first attempt at salary negotiations!
Um, I just got offered a job. Yay! Pay was 1K less a month than I make now. BOO! I can't accept it that low, so I asked them to take it to the top of their pay scale range, which would still be a drop for me, but one we could manage. Keep your fingers crossed for me (toes and eyes, too, I'll take all I can get)! I've never done this before. I feel like I'm taking a risk asking for a different pay, but I know even for stability's sake, I can't take that big of a pay cut.
We have so much time, and so little to do! Strike that, reverse it.

Yay, go get 'em!!
I was a wreck when dealing with salary negotiations. Like full on tears and panic attacks! Are you doing it via email or phone?
Keep me updated!!

Phone. They called this morning (they as in state office). The HR lady offered me the job, and I asked for more money, stating how much of a paycut it would be. She's going to call the area (?!) and talk to them and get back to me. I'm basically trying to figure out what my bottom line is. DH is in class right now and can't call me back. I'm willing to take a paycut in exchange for the benefits, just not that big of one. The only tangible benefits for me are health insurance and vacation/sick pay.
Oh, and I am a nervous wreck. I need this job so bad, but the money is important. I woke up with a feeling they would be calling soon, but I anticipated a rejection, not an offer!
ETA: If it wasn't for the Nest (this board and MM), I never even would have thought to negotiate salary!
ETA (again): Finally talked to DH and he agreed with me about not being able to accept that offer. We came up with a bottom line (slightly less than I asked for) that we'd collectively feel comfortable at. He said he'd take on extra students if he had to.
All that's left is the call back from HR!

Yay about getting the offer and trying to negotiate! You're a rockstar!
I know this part is nervewracking, but hang in there and keep us posted.

Congratulations on the offer! Any word yet?
I'm a firm believer in salary negotiations too. I was able to get what I asked for with my current job, but they actually had to give other people with my same title raises to match what I'd be making.
