S/O making a wish list

My sister is driving me crazy.  I hate making wish lists for people, that's bad enough.  But my sister does this thing where she asks me questions, and I know they're related to Christmas gifts and they are pretty awful ideas sometimes.  She's been sending me texts today along these lines.

Example #1:

"Do u have enough Keurig coffee things?"

-We don't have a Keurig, we have a Tassimo.  Tassimo discs wouldn't be the WORST idea, but there are a lot of varieties and I have no idea what she'd choose.  Plus it's kind of like buying our groceries, I buy them for myself when I need them.  I simply told her, "We have a Tassimo, I just ordered a bunch of discs."

 Example #2:

"Hows ur makeup and perfume doing?"

-I don't really wear much makeup, and what I do wear, I buy when I need it.  I haven't worn perfume in at least 5 years - it gives me migraines. I told her I don't need any right now.

I feel bad because she's obviously struggling to come up with an idea.  I really don't have anything in mind so I suggested an Amazon GC, and then she said, "I guess.  If u think of anything else, text or call."  The whole thing is just awkward.  It's especially annoying since she is really hard to shop for, will never tell me what she wants, and will openly let you know she doesn't like the gift you got her.  So, yeah.

Re: S/O making a wish list

  • I am the worst at giving wish lists.  When people ask me what I want I'm like I dunno.  I'm going to put together a list for DH with websites and pricing for things that I really want.  Everyone else can just get me whatever the heck they want!

  • Could you suggest to her your favorite restaurants for GCs or movie theatre GCs?  DH and I only go to the movies if we have a GC, otherwise we do redbox, so I ALWAYS put those on my list.

  • I was trying to come up with more interesting GCs than Amazon, but we don't go to the movies and we don't eat out much, by choice.  When we do, it's usually at non-chain restaurants or at places that are pretty expensive and I wouldn't want her to feel obligated to get a GC that covered the cost of a meal.  Since the wedding happened so recently, there's really nothing I can think of that we want/need - if we didn't get it off our registry, we bought it.  And we already have more stuff than we can find places to store it!

I can usually go for new clothes but a) that's not a gift for both of us, and b) I would never trust her to pick out clothes, and there's nothing I've been eyeing lately since I went on a Thanksgiving shopping spree.  With an Amazon card, I can get books for my Kindle and there's got to be something for Jeff!  Honestly, I know it can be tough coming up with gift ideas, but since I'm drawing a blank, I don't see why she can't come up with something herself, like millions of people have to do every year (including me).

  • it sounds stupid- but this year I am painting everyone a picture- abstract or portrait--- we're still in the process of refiguring out finances-- I feel like after the wedding we were right on top of the world--now I am out of extra money to buy for everyone. I am buying stuff for Liv because she comes first as far as I'm concerned, and Otto is already taken care of -- but everyone else can settle for art--

  • I don't need a lot, just want a lot. Actually James and I told one of my aunts and uncles that we want passes for the ski resorts, we're going to tell his parents the same thing (unless his mom already did shopping). Some people are getting actual gifts, others are getting homemade cookies.

  • Do you have an Amazon.com wish list? That might be a nice place to point her. Plus she can gift you Kindle books now! They just started it a few months ago I think ...

I'm sorry, but you sound like a spoiled brat. Poor you with the sister that wants to buy you a Christmas gift you'd like! God forbid you get a flavor of coffee that isn't your favorite!
