I'm not sure how I stumbled on it but I read a tidbit on Westboro Baptist Church and Googled it. WHOOOOOOOAAAAAAAAAH. I thought at first the websites that came up were fake but I'm afraid they are real. I had heard of them in the past and knew they were not nice but I had no idea how off the deep end and utterly evil they are. Wow.
How am I going to go to bed after reading some of that?? :-(
Oh the irony that they are the ones most worried about the future of our nation.

Not much surprises me anymore, in either far left or far right. I still have strong opinions - definitely not a pushover swaying in my beliefs. But yeah, there are huge wackadoodles on both extremes.
Hm, I just gave it a thought. My favorite OMG?! thing is the folks who believe humans and dinosaurs lived together. And therefor believe all scientists have this huge conspiracy going on (nevermind many scientists are still Christian.)
They came and picketed at one of my college's choir concerts once. I don't recall the reason why now but it was insane. the school spent so much time trying to convince us all that it was the best idea to just ignore them. They're all about creating a splash and if you don't react to them or engage them (can't reason with crazy right?), their mission has failed. It worked but still.... I'm all for religious freedoms but I sometimes wonder if we're reading from the same book.
We talk about them a lot on the Military board. They come and scream profanities at soldier's funerals regularly and basically say "good, you should have died." They have no soul.
My favorite story was in the Strib I think last week...where a little small town USA had people coming by the thousands from multiple counties to stand outside the funeral. There were so many people there, that by the time Westboro got there the closest they could get to the church was 1/3 mile away...and they couldn't be heard over all the happy USA chanting and "God Bless the USA" stuff. Awesome.

It's very interesting and I have to give him a lot of credit for getting out and trying to be normal.
I was just about in tears watching a video of a little boy spouting off all this garbage that his dad was feeding him from off camera. "Remember son when we say that all Jews and f**** and the military are bad and going to h***?"
The 24 year old sister of that kid was kicked out of the family for raising questions about their hypocrisies. It made my heart hurt seeing how cold and detached the father was when asked if he still loved his daughter. "No - why would I?" UGH.
I saw another video of Shirley Phelps and it was apparent there is no soul behind her eyes. She seems to be an empty robot on autopilot. The interviewer asked her something along the lines of if she liked being so mean and hateful and she just sad there smiling like an idiot.
The whole thing makes me really sad. :-(

If I remember right they're the ones that came to picket my junior high back in the day. Long story short a kid in my school wore a Straight Pride t-shirt and was asked to take it off. His parents got mad and wanted to sue the school.
Somehow the crazies at this "church" got word of it and came to picket the school.
I miss Ziggy. Well, not really, but she did start some very interesting fights ... er ... discussions.

To this day, my favorite SNL skit is a Weekend Update about the teaching of evolution in schools:
"A Supreme Court in Georgia ruled that high school biology teachers were permitted to continue using the term 'evolution' when teaching their classes. However as a compromise, they must now refer to dinosaurs as 'jesus horses'."
