Christmas Spirit

i've noticed a lot of people are just not into the Christmas spirit this year. i, on the other hand, am more into it, earlier, than i ever have been in prior years. usually i can not stomach x-mas music until a couple days before but this year, i have been listening to it non-stop. i am generally in a much better mood. it's just so not typical of me.

what about you? are you in the christmas spirit? why or why not?

Re: Christmas Spirit

  • I am, because it's our first Xmas together. I've also gotten really involved in my church and my spirituality is at a place it's never been before, so I'm seeing Christmas in a whole new light. That being said, I've gotten BF some really awesome gifts so I can't wait to see his face when he opens them. :)
  • I am, but not as much as usual.  I was really excited because my family and FI's family was coming here for Christmas and I was looking forward to hosting dinner and having everyone here, but for several reasons, it's not working out now.  I'm now going to MI to be with my family and will be without FI this year, so I'm a little down about that.

Plus, this is my first Christmas without my Dad since he's passed and it's just not going to be the same.

  • I am sort of in the spririt although it has been really hard this year b/c I am not decorating due to the impending move. Also, we are spending Christmas in ATL. So without decorations, and the relativley warm temperatures and it's been hard. Plus, Christmas isn't exactly the majority holiday down here like it is in ATL (not judging, just making an observation) most people here are in the middle of their holiday celebration right now..

  • Going to WDW during the holidays is enough to put anyone in a good holiday spirit. I love the decorations and they always make me smile.

We don't go gung-ho decorating or anything at home though. We have the tree up and some lighted small trees and a wreath on the front door that I love. I'm an atheist that celebrates as part of tradition with family and friends, so I'm not big into Christmas music. DH loves it though.

The truth is, we're looking to move in January to a more ITP location. I have no idea where yet and we have not had anytime yet (on the weekends) to go look at places, let alone decorate our place. So I don't feel overly Christmasy so far. Sad I have done some shopping, though!

  • I am a bit more this year. Last year we got robbed on the 17th so it made me hate the holiday.

This year we've moved, new home, new decorations, all my shopping is done. I feel more festive.

  • i think i'm ALWAYS in the christmas spirit =) i love putting up decorations and listening to music...i need to get to wrapping though!
  • I'm sort of in the spirit, ...we usually go up north for the holidays but I refuse to put the baby on a plane during cold and flu season since she can't get a flu vaccine until she's 6 months and dh just started a new job so we don't have time to drive up like we did last year...so, we're staying home and dh's mom is coming for Christmas and my mom is coming for New Years.  Since I'm Jewish I didn't grow up having a tree or celebrating Christmas so it's not a deeply rooted tradition for me but I'm looking forward to Harlie enjoying it in future years and building our own family traditions with Christmas and Channukah.  This year she's too young to know what's going on.
  • i'm grumpy but then again i always get this way at this time of the year and i'm not sure why. i think i find it annoying that people get into the spirit of giving and are all happy and celebrating and then go right back to the way they were at the start of the new year. why not spread the cheer all year long rather than once a year?
  • We spend time with the kids each night lighting the Advent candles and reading a story about preparation for the birth of Christ.  For those of you that celebrate Advent, when you have kids, I highly recommend "Jotham's Journey."  It's fantastic.

I'm definitely in the spirit this year. I'm pretty much done shopping and decorating so now I just need to sit back and enjoy the ride.

  • I am pretty into the Christmas spirit this year, because this is our first as husband and wife <3 It is also my first year with my very own Christmas tree, so I was pretty excited to go cut it down the day after Thanksgiving.

I usually don't get into the spirit until about a week before Christmas.

  • We have our tree up and the house mostly decorated, and this is actually pretty early for me. Growing up, the tree always went up on my B-day (the 17th), so in my mind, that's about when Christmas should start to be celebrated. DH on the other hand, was trying to wish me Merry Christmas the first of November! Big Smile It is hard not to feel a bit more festive with him around. Party!!!

  • I love, love, love Christmas so I'm always in "the spirit" but this year is really different since we are in Switzerland. It's been snowing for awhile and Christmas decorations have been up for awhile (no Thanksgiving so we started early!) but we are moving to South Africa on the 15th, and it is summer there so there's just a lot going on. We aren't really doing presents since we don't want to tote them around the world and we won't be with our families but we're planning to do "Christmas in March" when we get home :)
  • I'm not in the spirit at all.  Not sure why, really.  I'm not going to decorate, partially because we don't really have a place to put the tree this year (used to go in our empty dining room, but we now have a dining room set).  DH bought a "Charlie Brown" tree, and it sits atop our dining room table, but that is the most decorating we will do.  I haven't even really bought many presents yet either.  I'm just not feeling it.

  • I was in the Christmas spirit last week when I was decorating the house. This week, not so much. I'll get back into it about a week before Christmas.
  • Yes! I love Christmas!  I've been listening to Christmas music since after Thanksgiving.  I haven't decorated yet but I'm looking forward to doing it this weekend Smile
