Getting Rid of a TV
Hey Ladies. We have a big screen TV that we need to dispose of. The picture stopped working a few months ago, and since we'd been wanting a new TV anyway, we decided not to get it fixed. We posted it on Craigslist, thinking maybe somebody would like it for parts, or would even fix it for themselves, but nobody bit.
SO, I know we can't just throw it in the dump...how do you get rid of something like that?

Does your town do a neighborhood cleanup? Maybe look into when/where that might be. Otherwise I wonder if you contacted your garbage company, if they could point you in the right direction.

I'm not sure where you live, but if the locations listed here don't work for you, you could try googling "electronics disposal [your city]" and see if there are some specific resources for your location.
Note: sometimes you have to pay a fee for disposal/recycling of electronics. Some people throw their tv in the trash in an attempt to avoid paying those fees, but the fees pay for the proper handling and disposal of hazardous waste products, so I'm glad you're looking into the proper ways to dispose of your tv!
Best Buy has an electronics recycling program. You bring your item(s) into the store and pay $10 for Best Buy to take them, then you get that $10 back in a BB gift card. I really don't think there's any way to avoid paying to have electronics recycled or disposed these days, so at least this way you're getting your money back (sort of).
I think most Best Buys will take electronics for recycling, I would call first and ask. You would of course have to drop it off.
I know Randy's will take them, however, I don't know what they do with them and I would want to be ensured that the TV is being recycled. The will charge you a fee to take it away.

As a resident of Ramsey County, I can take my electronics to the Washington County recycling facility in Woodbury for free. They serve Washington, Ramsey, Anoka, Hennepin, Chisago, Carver county residents.

Thanks!! I am in Dakota County, so that's perfect. I tried looking on the city's website, and couldn't find anything. Of course I didn't think about the county site. Perfect!
