(Kinda Stupid) Question about Nook/Kindle

Ok, so now that the Nook Color is out, I'm kind of dying to have it.  But I still love actual books, turning the pages, the pretty covers, the books stacked on my bookshelf.  Dorky, I know.  And (here's the stupid question part) I always worried that reading off of a screen would hurt my eyes.  So for those of you that have and use an e-reader, do you feel like you are reading from a computer screen?  Just wondering...

Re: (Kinda Stupid) Question about Nook/Kindle

  • I'm with you! I have officially made the Nook color my gift request from H this year! I do have the nook and kindle apps on my droid, and I found that they were  good "testers" for a full fledged e-reader.

The verdict? I really do like it a lot! I don't feel that my eyes get any more tired than they would if I read a paperback book, for say, 3 or more hours. And there have been days, as with the first Twilight book, when I've read a paperback  in 24 hours...I literally could not put it down. My eyes got tired then, but only because I was missing sleep :-)

And oddly enough, I don't feel like I'm reading from a computer screen even on my phone, so I don't think I'd feel that way with the reader. If anything, I find that I read faster, because I literally have a book with me at all times!

  • My Kindle is much easier than reading from a computer, it's just like reading a book to me.  I read it for 5 hours straight the other day.  Warning, though, during my research I saw many mentions that the color Nook has a different type of screen (more like a computer screen) than the black & white versions that is harder to read, especially in sunlight. That's why I opted against it.

  • I don't mind reading off the nook at all, it doesn't feel as digitally (thats got to be a word right?).

I know what you mean, I have an IPAD that has the nook and kindle Apps but I still love walking around B&N and looking and books and I ususally have to buy one....something about the physical book!

  • I felt the same way as you. I love the look, feel, and even the smell of the book! But I have the regular nook, Not the nook color, and it looks just like a book! It's black and white pages are awesome. It's so much better then carrying around a bulk of books, especially when traveling!! At first when I got it I was super close to taking it back just because it wasn't the real thing (a real book)!! I much recommend the nook! I state at a computer screen all day at work and looking at the nook doesn't hurt my eyes at all! I wanted to upgrade to the nook color but after sampling one I changed my mind cause the screen is just like a computer screen!!

  • I have my Nook and I've never looked back on getting actual books. Doesn't bother my eyes at all.

I'm SO MAD that I got the Nook and then less than 6 months later the Nook Color came out. ::grumble grumble::

  • HMMM Interesting...so the Nook Color has a different type of screen?  I'm going to have to see it in person...thanks for the feeback girls!
  • I have the Kindle DX (the big one) and can read for hours without problems. If I would do that on a regular screen I would have a total headache! It's not backlit which is why I think it's so much better. I LOVE my Kindle!!! I thought I would have more problems with changing from "real books" but surprisingly  it was a super easy transition.
