small IL vent

Ok, mainly MIL vent.  We just finished moving in, everything renovated, all boxes put away.  It looks freaking awesome.  New tile floors, neutral painted walls, wood blinds and curtains put up, new granite countertops, new backsplash, all new oil-rubbed hardware.  I'm VERY proud of it.  DH has been gone, and I've done almost everything on my own.

Skip to today, when MIL and FIL stop by with their friends to see the finished product.  They went through the house the whole time saying "I would have done this..." or "we had those white and maroon wood blinds we don't use, you could have used that to save money."  Not one "wow you did a good job" or "looks great."  I know, I seek approval, it's one of my faults.  But really people?

Ugh!  I'm proud of my home dammit!  And they did notice that the lovely Christmas gift from a couple years ago was not on the walls...2 paintings, one of a tiger in some gray mountains, and one of a jaguar in a jungle.  :)  Ha, um yeah, those got "misplaced" in the move...in a closet.

Ok, vent over.

  • Yuck. Sounds like they aren't very happy people and can't be happy for you and their son. Sad.

    but your house sounds amazing!
  • Wow! You should be proud! You have accomplished alot!! I know how you feel. Mine are the same way! It drives me crazy. They are not only that way with me but also with my hubby. It really tweaks me the wrong way. It's like the things we do are NEVER good enough! They should really be happy they have such a great DIL to take care of their son!

Thanks!  And yeah, true.  When we got DH his fancy truck (work related expense, work pays for it) they just said "You paid to much."  DH was crushed.  He LOVES that truck.  : (

There's some of it in the garage that I used as a drop cloth when doing the cabinets :)  God that was horrible carpet.  I did save a piece of the tile just to show how horrid it was.  Oh purple nightmare...at least it's gone!

  • I can completely understand where you are coming from.  My mom did almost the same thing in our house.  Before she left she did eventually say "looks good", but still.  I was like, no.  It looks awesome and you are jealous. :-)  That's how I have been trying to look at.  When she doesn't say something nice, I just think she is criticizing because she is jealous. I think that some people just don't know how to say nice things without criticizing.  It sounds like your house looks amazing and you SHOULD be proud!!  Now shows US pictures so we can tell you how awesome it is??
