Does anyone else ever do this?

Or do I just need a set of nuts?

I have been crying all. the. time.  And no, I'm not on or near my period.

Like, I was at Penn Square mall today and had to run in a store and walk past a group of children around middle school age singing Christmas music.  I stood to listen for a couple minutes and felt myself starting to tear up.  Uhhh...so I walked off and kept telling myself, WTF?  Seriously?  You're going to cry over a bunch of stinky twelve year olds wearing neckties?

That's not the only time I do this.  While shopping for our foster kids, I kept tearing up.  When we got home I bawled to H.   Like nasty, Farrah-style ugly cry.

Then, H and I were talking about the sermon at church last Sunday (which was over tithing, nothing emotional at all) and I started crying again.  H is probably going to want to ship me off to a facility if I don't get it together!

Re: Does anyone else ever do this?

  • Is this a recent thing or have you always cried a lot? I've never thought of you as big crier.

To answer your question... no, I don't think any of those things would have made me cry. What about the sermon made you cry?

Totally recent.  I have never been a huge crier.  I've always had a soft heart for certain things, but that's normal.

Nothing about the sermon made me cry--that's why this is all so strange.  I can't pinpoint why I started to tear up.  We were discussing whether it was correct to tithe off of your net or your gross, and the tears started flowing.  Freak.

I mean, I can be sitting in my living room and think of something completely random, and all of a sudden feel myself well up with crazy.

    Lilypie First Birthday tickers
  • I do... but it's so random. And, it's not all the time. For instance:

My mom is talking about transferring my little brother to a different school for the rest of his middle school years because our local middle school is totally crap-tastic on the educational level... I keep thinking about this and how if he does transfer out he'll miss some of the best (not academically, but best fun-wise) teachers I had. And how on all sides of my family we're the 4th generation to go to this school, etc. Tears!

Or HeirToBlair's blog post yesterday about giving the guy on the corner a bag of Wendy's to eat. Tears!

Just totally random shiit at totally random times hits me hard... and it's annoying. My nose gets all tingly and the tears start welling.

  • I'm the same way - but I've always been an overly emotional person, so it's routine for me to cry during random parts of movies, shows etc. Watching an ESPN:360 report the other night - I cried [and it wasn't even a particularly moving story, per say]. I was watching JJ play with his basketball goal last night and couldn't believe how big he's getting, and I got teary.

I wish I could be of more help in terms of why the water works start flowing...maybe it's just a phase of some sort?

Dude. When I was watching ESPN Gameday a few weeks ago they did a segment on the highway patrolmen who basically are the coaches body guards, and they travel with the coach and team and everything. I cried.

  • Oh no....

I'm starting to rub off on you...

    My bad.  :)

  • It's got to be a hormonal thing.... well, duh. I dunno!
  • I used to never be a very emotional person, but since I had kids I tend to get teary really easily about anything that is really touching to me or has to to with anyone suffering.
  • I've always been "emotional"--like my mom would get annoyed with me when I was younger for crying over silly (to her) stuff.  I was/am the girl who cried when sad, mad, upset, etc.  I guess that could be annoying Stick out tongue

I have noticed that as I've gotten older I'm more emotional.  Not saying you're old, so don't even go there!  But I think just being at different/new places in life makes things mean more to me now.
  • I was never a crier until I went on birth control. Now I can make myself cry at the drop of a hat. The following make me cry on a regular basis:

Glee (especially last night...OH EM GEE)

Thinking about my dad at random times

Sometimes thinking about students of mine who are graduating and moving on

The kind things my students and parents have done for me

Thinking about if I lost H, or my sister (two closest people to me)

And, now I'm tearing up. OH EM GEE again.

  • I cry a fair amount. I'm sure there are reasons for it somewhere, but it tends to seem random. For example, last night I heard a beautiful song. I didn't like sob for 20 minutes or anything, but I did tear up and a couple of tears probably leaked out.

I will say that any time men cry, I lose it. I don't care why they're crying (or if I even know them!) Men crying makes me cry.

  • I am so in the minority. I can't even REMEMBER the last time I cried. I almost never cry...
    Vacation
  • Another thing that gets me: pets dying in movies and people with cancer. After watching my dad struggle for so long with it, and knowing what it can do to a person and their family, cancer gets me every single time.

THIS.  DH and I were watching "The Road" the other night, and apart from the ending just legitimately being sad... When the dad and son says their goodbyes I LOST it.  DH looked over and was like, "Why are you crying?" haha

    I cry anytime:

    I watch "Rudy"

The Undercover Boss pays for an employee's kid's college tuition

During the intro package on Extreme Makeover: Home Edition

I hear a particularly moving song

Watching Glee- esp. last night as well Fuzzy!

Thinking about my grandpa or mom

Um... There are more but, that's just what came to mind.  I cry ALL. THE. TIME.

  • I am a crier.  I was listening to Dave Ramsey today and started crying.  It wasn't a sad story or anything, but still made me cry.  I cry at everything though, songs, commercials, seeing the kids playing together.  H has gotten used to it and hardly ever asks why I'm crying anymore since he knows it is really for no reason.

And I have always been like this.  Not jus when I am KU.  It it just worse then!

Stick out tongue To answer your question, I only get weepy if I'm near my period then I can cry at the drop of the hat. Maybe the holidays bring on extra stress and you just don't realize that's what it is?

I don't think I will ever even attempt to watch this movie.  I read the book when I was pregnant with DS, and it disturbed me more than almost anything else I have ever read.  I don't think I could handle watching it on screen.

I tried to read the book and just couldn't.  I couldn't get past the first few chapters because 1. it was, like you said, exceedingly disturbing and 2. it was just straight up boring.  DH had the movie on while I was editing pictures in the kitchen so I heard the first 3/4's of it and then went in there to watch the end...  Blegh.

  • I've been crying quite a bit lately. DH thinks I'm going crazy but I think it's just a hormonal thing. It can really be anything: M playing with her dolls by herself, DH and M playing together or reading a book. I also cry quite a bit latley because one of my older cousins has been posting old pictures and videos of my great grandma. I was watching a video where he was interviewing her (it was around the early 90s) and it was just so good to hear her voice again. I'm tearing up now just thinking about it.

Plus, the holidays always gets me emotional. I wonder if that's your reason. Children singing Christmas songs always warm my heart and will possibly make me choke up.

  • I also cry at random stuff.

Most random: I cry watching horse races. I've gotten pretty good at holding it in, but if I didn't do that then I would just bawl like crazy.

I was just coming in here to post that this was another thing that got to me! It gets me all tingly nosed and teary eyed. And, it really makes me wish I had a big brother to love that much.

I've cried during sporting events, too. When my HS lost the state championship in '03, I bawled. It's a given I'll get teary-eyed during Senior Night for any OSU sport, and I cried during my Senior Night for volleyball [and my sister's]. After the Thunder lost last year to the Lakers during the playoffs, I cried. Ugh. It's pathetic.

And TJ - I cried during that story, too! And I cried during this week's Glee! I AM emotional. Sheesh.

  • Just ran across this on the OSU sports forum I like, and by golly, wouldn't you know the teary eyes and tingly nose were sent into motion. It's Kendall Hunter on Senior Night, for those of you who don't know.

HOLY CRAP you read it while PREGNANT?!? I probably would still be crying.  I was serioulsy disturbed by the movie and of course I had to wikipedia the book to see what was left out or if it could explain more. It was the bleakest thing I've ever seen and I don't think I could handle reading the book.

Boymom-I'm not much of a crier, of course being all pregnant there are times I have teared up when something wouldn't usually phase me
