Grapevine to downtown Dallas commute?

DH and I are thinking of moving to Grapevine, right near the main street area. I work in the hospital district near Harry Hines. Anyone know what the 8am/5pm commute to/from Grapevine is like? We live in Frisco now and one of the reasons for moving is to be closer to work (as well as family). The commute will go from 30 to 20 miles, but with all the 114 construction I am concerned the traffic will be just as bad if not worse. Thanks!

Re: Grapevine to downtown Dallas commute?

  • It will be a minimum of an hour, most likely more would be my guess.

We live in Coppell and I work by northpark, and my commute is a minimum of 45 minutes, depending on traffic.

  • If there's any way around the constuction for now, 114 to Inwood/35 isn't that bad.  And then once construction is done, I bet you'd be fine.  I'd estimate 45-60 minutes.  (possibly 30-40 w/o traffic)

You could also ride the TRE.

  • I'll second the TRE unless you could avoid peak traffic times - otherwise, it's really going to suck.

  • The traffic is a nightmare.  The DFW Connector project is going to alleviate much of the trouble, but there's a few more years until that finishes.  FWIW, I live in Grapevine (near downtown) and I love it!
