Color of the Year?

Did you know Pantone (the "world-renowned authority on color and provider of color systems"...not the shampoo Pantene, like I first read it to be...) announces a "Color of the Year"?

The "Color of the Year" is picked by Pantone as...well, to be honest, I'm really not sure what. It's the "in" color, I guess, that we'll be seeing everywhere? Fashion, mostly, is my understanding from reading...or, according to their press release, "Wedding Styles," "Paint," and on a Pantone-sponsored Visa card.

In 2009, the color was Pantone's Mimosa

In 2010, the color was Pantone's Turquoise

In 2011, the color is Pantone's Honeysuckle:

Pantone says it is "Courageous. Confident. Vital. A brave new color for a brave new world."

(Which, if you've ever read the Aldous Huxley novel Brave New World isn't that nice of a promise...)

Apparently in 2010, Turquoise was our color to calm us and allow us to escape from tumultuous things. This color is supposed to give us strength and power.

I'm still baffled by the whole "Color of the Year" concept in general, but what do y'all think? Does 2011 seem like it will be "Honeysuckle"-y to you?
