April Nesties March siggy challenge: Next Vacation, Anguilla!!
Well, I am having surgery the Friday before, so I'm not traveling.
DH is going to drive home (just over an hour) to his mom's house on Christmas Eve to drop off and pick up presents. Then he'll come back the same day.
Christmas morning we'll be doing our own thing. We'll both have to call our parents of course, and mine will be in NY with my sister, her husband and my niece, who is 2 &1/2.
Well, Hannukah's over, although at some point soon we still need to see my MIL to give her presents. Christmas is still busy for us though, even though we don't technically celebrate it. Christmas Eve afternoon every year we drive down to DH's close friend's house, which is about an hour away, and stay overnight. It's the gathering point for a bunch of our friends who stop by and/or stay over, it's sort of like a big slumber party. We participate in her family celebration, watch them open gifts, etc. Then we usually stay up late after her family leaves, drinking wine and chatting. It's a great time.
Saturday morning we'll all have a big breakfast together, and then DH and I will drive another hour down to where my family lives. We do the typical movie and Chinese food thing. It's kind of a big deal, I skipped it one year when I started dating DH and my family got so upset you would think I missed Thanksgiving.
TTC #1 since 4/10, Dx: MFI IVF planned for April/May
Christmas Eve: TBD DH's family does vigelia (spelled wrong SORRY) its a Polish tradition. His uncle cooks and its his mom him and his two uncles. Honestly I'm not THAT picky of an eater but I only eat some fish and I hate mushrooms. Wouldn't you know two or three courses are fish and one is mushroom soup. My family usually goes out and then to Midnight Mass we are still wroking out details. I think I may go with him for a bit to his uncles then back to my family in time for mass....but we'll see.
Christmas Day: My mom always hosts so we'll be there and both his uncles and his mom are invited and will likely be there.
I just wish we could combine Christmas Eve....
My parents (from CA), MIL (from PA), SIL (from Chicago), and possibly BIL (from NY) will be coming to our house! The only people missing will be by brother and his wife (kind of mad about this, long story). Everyone will be staying with us for at least a few days.
I am so jealous of you girls that have both families so close! I am so excited that we get to spend Christmas with both families this year, but that will definitely not be the case for every Christmas in the future. My mom is already talking about us going to my brothers inlaws house in CA next Christmas, which would mean not seeing DH's family for Christmas next year. I am sure that they would actually be invited, and my brothers inlaws would love for them to join, which is awesome, but I just dont think that DH's family could afford to go out there.
Some of our plans keep changing, but as of right now, here is where we stand:
Dec 19--my mom's side of the family in the afternoon for Christmas/my Grandma's birthday. Then that evening, we have my dad's side of the family. My parents are sorta hosting both this year so that's why they are on the same day.
Christmas Eve: H and I will open our gifts from each other in the afternoon before heading OOT. We will go to my parents for dinner (about an hour away) and hang out there for the evening and open gifts. Then H and I will head out to midnight service and go back to my sister's for some sleep.
Christmas Day: Breakfast with my family after they get back from church. Lunch and dinner/evening snacks with FIL's side of the family. We will probably spend the night at my sister's again.
Dec 26-open gifts with H's immediately family in the morning. Then MIL is hosting her side of the family in the afternoon. We will probably try to head home by 5 or 6 since we have an hour drive home again.
Christmas is always chaotic for us, but somehow we manage to see all the family.
Thank God Christmas has two days - it's easier to share than Thanksgiving!!!
Christmas Eve - the big Italian feast of the fishes at my aunt's house nearby - DH usually puts on the Santa suit and gives out all the gifts. It's about 25 people (and 10 kids) in a basement, and it's total chaos, but I wouldn't miss it for the world!!!
Christmas Day - we are going to get up early and head to Delaware, to see the in-laws. We're going to stay over and have dinner with hubby's brothers, sisters-in-law and niece on the 26th.
I think DH and I are going to start a tradition of exchanging our gifts on Christmas Eve and then have brunch, since we have to get up and get out so early on Christmas Day.
So excited!!!
Christmas Eve: It's looking like DH has off of work so we will go up to see DH's family during the day and then go to my parents that night.
Christmas Day: We will be at my parents but the details are still to be worked out....

Wednesday the 22nd.....Dinner with our good friends J&S. Amanda and their girls will exchange gifts and play the Wii and other stuff while the adults visit.
Christmas Eve......Working until 1:00 then a few hours to do last minute stuff. 4:00 mass followed by lasagna dinner over my cousin's house (on mom's side). This year we'll have Amanda overnight since it's her mom's year to have her for Christmas dinner. Too bad only my family will see her (Mike's side is Christmas day).
Christmas Day.......Opening gifts in the morning. Taking Amanda home, then breakfast with my parents. Dinner at SIL's house at 3:00 then later in the evening we'll probably go back to my parents' house.
Sunday the 26th........Drinks and dessert with my dad's side of the family over my cousin's house in the evening, IF my aunt and cousin come up from AL/GA.
Wow...DH and I have it very easy compared to everyone else's schedules. DH's family lives 6 hours from my family so we'll never be able to see both sides on the same day. We spent Thanksgiving with my family so we'll be with his family for Christmas.
We'll be there December 23rd to the 26th or 27th - depending on if we go see a football game (Chiefs!!!!!)
Then we'll celebrate Christmas with my family the weekend after over New Years.
Christmas Eve: Open presents with in-laws (MIL is like a child and can't wait to open gifts, lol)
Christmas Day: Open our presents, go to in-laws for lunch, come home and start christmas dinner and have my parents over. This is the first year we are doing it this way. Usually my mom's whole side of the family would have a big christmas, but my grandma passed away so no one wants to get together anymore.
New Year's Day: Christmas continued... we go to our friends house (they are like a second family to us) and we do christmas dinner and open presents as well as celebrate 3 Jan. birthdays.
We have 50/50 custody of the kids, and alternating holidays, to preface this.
Christmas eve: We'll celebrate Christmas with the kids and MIL with dinner and presents, and probably after the presents from us are opened my brothers and respective families will come up to do the niece/nephew exchange. Kids will be on their way to their mom's around 8 or so I figure.
Christmas day: My dad's cooking for all of us with my grandma and I helping supply some dishes. MIL is invited to join but probably won't since it's like 45 min away and she isn't a socialite. I could hang out with my fam all day long but she only can bear an hour or two. She left T-giving as soon as she scarfed her pie down! lol. So it'll be great- dad, grandma, both brothers and families and me and DH. Unfortunately our kids won't be there but it'll probably be crowded enough anyway.
I haven't spent holidays like I've wanted the last couple years, so I am very excited to see all my family together again.
