A couple nights ago when I came home there was a package in our lobby addressed to me and DH. When I opened it up there was a box of Godiva chocolate, I thought maybe it was from my dad or something. I read the card and it said something like "here's some candy to enjoy for Hannukah", and it was signed Maria (not her real name).
The problem is... I have no idea who Maria is. I asked DH and it turns out that she's a former co-worker of his who he's barely spoken to in 10 years and just reconnected with on FB. He told me she's done wacky things like this in the past, like when he mentioned offhand that he wanted to go to a particular city she researched out the whole trip and sent the info to him as if they were going together (she was really just an acquaintance of his).
We only buy gifts for immediate family and some close friends, so I just find this very strange, but maybe in some circles people send gifts to everyone they know?? Not that I really care, it just seems weird to me. I jokingly said "oh, she probably likes you" and he just shrugged. Oh boy...
The ironic thing is that DH doesn't even like chocolate much, so I'm really enjoying Maria's Godiva chocolate ![]()
Re: Is this weird, or is it just me?
Wow that is bizarre! We've never received a gift from someone we barely talk to.
I don't know that I would trust her enough to eat the chocolates. Coming from person who works with criminals, what if she knew that your H doesn't like chocolate and she poisoned it knowing you would it eat it?
Anywho, I'm going to go back to work....

Mel, you crack me up.
I do think it's rather odd, but some people are just like that I suppose.
No doubt about it, that weird. If it were me I would want DH to de-friend her on FB. He could do it w/o even telling her. The whole thing seems pretty psycho to me not to mention inappropriate. Did anyone else hear the theme music from Psycho playing when you read the OP?
Mel, I'm dyingggg - we really do think alike!!!! If I get a food gift from someone I don't know well, I kinda 'skeeve' it. Isn't that horrible???
Anyhoo - yes it's odd, but enjoy the Godiva. It would be an absolute sin to let Godiva chocolates go to waste!!!
Ha, the box came directly from Godiva and was shrink wrapped so I'm sure it's safe, but thanks for putting that idea in my head! LOL. I'm pretty sure this girl is harmless, just a little kooky, but I'll let you guys know if I find a rabbit in a pot on my stove or something (oh, you guys are young, you probably don't even know what movie that's a reference to!).
TTC #1 since 4/10, Dx: MFI IVF planned for April/May
That is very weird. I hope DH tells Maria that his beautiful wife is enjoying her chocolate very much!
I had a girl like that with DH, who was kind of always around at opportune minutes. She bought him wine for christmas last year, and I made a point to tell her how much I enjoyed it the next time I saw her.
