makeup color help!

Alrighty, so my little brother is getting married Saturday.  I'm doing my own makeup.  Katie is doing the bride's and bridesmaids' makeup, but I'm doing my own.  I've gotten some tips and tried it out, turns out great.  However, what color for eyeshadows and lips?

It is a formal wedding and the them is vintage Christmas.  The girls will have 40s style makeup.  I'm technically and usher/greater.  My dress is very form fitting so I look very curvy :)  I feel like Mae West :)

My dress is floor length and a plum purple.  I have light beige skin, blue/gray eyes (think dark blue not sky blue) and very dark brown hair (2 shades lighter than black).  Should I do a smoky eye and neutral lips?  Or go simple with eyes and bold lips?  I love my eyes so I usually play them up alot.  I usually do purple/pinks on my eyes, but will that be too matchy with the dress?  I could do coppers and browns as well.  I have no clue!  Help!

Re: makeup color help!

  • I would personally do something in a more complementary color on your eyes. Think gold, coppery brown, or other orange-y brown. Any of these colors will pop with your eyes and dress.

I personally am not a fan of heavy colored lips, but you could go bolder with them since it is Vintage.

  • I like smokey eye and neutral lip.

  • I agree with pp.  Go darker on the eyes and lighter on the lips.  I was just in a wedding last month and wore a plum dress.  I did a smoky/purpley color on my eyes and got lots of compliments.  It didn't seem too matchy.

I was going to say almost the exact same thing. I love the gold, coppery colors for eye shadow.  I also do not like heavy colored lips.  I prefer a color just a little darker than your lips or a gloss.

  • It sounds like you are going for an old Hollywood glamorous look and IMO, that requires a dark lip. I would go for a dark plum lip (not red - more on the pink side) and a lighter golden eye with lots of mascara.
