Just had my first accident...

I was coming home from the dentist.  I had stopped to grab a minature Christmas tree as a surprise for Jay (he really wanted a cut tree this year).  Some biootch was in the other lane that was ending.  She decided it would be a good idea to force her way into my lane.  She forced me into the turning lane to avoid a collision, then pulled right in front of me.  I honked my horn and she slammed on her brakes.  Needless to say I couldn't stop fast enough and hit her.  Her car appears fine.  My hood now resembles a squished popcan.  And, best of all, I got blamed!  Noone stayed to witness so I was faulted since I hit her in the rear.  I am so pissed because it was totally her fault.  I have never been in an accident and was totally freaked and crying.  The highway patrol guy was super sweet.  I just can't wait for karma to get her.  Jay thinks I should go to court instead of just paying the ticket.  I don't know what to do.  There are no witnesses and I am afraid it will just be a waste of time and I will lose a day at work.  I called an attorney friend to ask for his advice.  Just waiting for a call back.

Re: Just had my first accident...

  • I don't have any advice, but urgh that sucks!! I'm sorry that happened and hope you find a way to reduce the financial blow.
  • oh hun i'm so sorry :(  Def see what your friend says, maybe the angle that you hit her will prove your story of her slamming on her brakes while pulling into your lane. It totally sux and is super scary. I'm glad the cop was at lease nice

  • That sucks. It is a pain in the arse, but I would go to court.  They will either reduce your fine or reduce the number of points that were taken off your license.  You might not lose an entire day, usually just a few hours.

  • Oh no! That sucks so bad! I agree that it would be worth it to go to court- she's the sh*tty driver and you shouldn't have to pay for it!

    I agree. I'm sorry sweetie

  • I'm so sorry Paka!  That really sucks.  I say go to court and fight the ticket, esp if that's what your attorney  friend recommends.

You clearly have a good record and I think that fight the ticket will probably give you some credibility.  I don't think I've ever gotten a ticket for an accident.

  • That totally sucks.  I'm so sorry.  Today was not a very good day for you.  :-(

  • I'm glad you're okay though.  I saw that on FB.  :(

Were there stores or anything around that could possibly have any video that you could use?  Like a gas station with cameras at the pump?  I dunno, maybe I watch too much of 48 Hours.

  • What a dumb ho!!!!!!!!! I'd definitely go to court!

  • I'm so glad you're OK! I saw this on FB this morning before I found it here. And everyone here is telling you the same thing your friends & family were saying - GO. TO. COURT. You have a great record and I'm guessing this isn't jackhole's first traffic "situation." It is a pain, but then you'll know you did everything you could to fight it, even if it doesn't go your way. Good luck and keep us posted!
  • that sucks HUGS!!!! I would talk to your insurance company and your lawyer friend and then decide what to do. I would be tempted to go to court. But with traffic accidents its iffy.
  • I have no advice, just a lot of sympathy. Sad I'm really glad that you're okay.
