Replying to the name Imogene. I figured it would get lost in the other post. I have only heard the name twice: Julia Stiles character in some movie with Freddie Prinze Jr and a singer on a song with Blue October. When I tell people I like the name I always get a side eye. I guess after thinking about the name for such a long time I just fell out of liking it for my child. I still like the name but think it does not fit with our last name.

I actually googled our baby names. There are one of each and they check out to be okay.

Re: ~karimychel~

  • **butting in** I love the name Imogene too! Have you read Cymbeline (it's Shakespeare)? It's where the name comes from... only they suspect he meant to write Innogen, and a typo put in Imogene.
  • The singer you're referring to is Imogen Heap - she's awesome!  Her album Speak for Yourself is beautiful (ugh, HATE how they sampled "Hide and Seek" in that stupid Jason Derulo song), and her stuff when she was with the band Frou Frou is great too!  She is what I always think of when I hear this name.

Oh, and the children's book Imogene's Antlers by David Small - does anyone else remember it??

  • Yah, I'm not sure when or where I heard it. It could have been the movie, I was a bit of a Julia Stiles fan when I was younger, but my mom swears I liked it before that.

I forgot about the book! Maybe that was it?

I actually had to show DH your post for him to believe someone else liked the name. At which point he said he didn't like the nickname Imagination for it anymore, and would refer to the kid as midget. He's convinced it sounds the same.

  • Answering all posts in one. I never read the piece by Shakespeare. That is the singer and I love her voice. Calling the kid midget is not nice. Sounds like my DH. Glad to hear others like the name.
