Photoshop programs

I know there are a few photographers on here and I was just wondering what everyone uses for photoshoping. C wants to get me one for Christmas and I don't know which program to tell him. I saw the new Adobe and its relatively inexpensive but I'm not sure if its good or easy to use..

Re: Photoshop programs

  • I have used the regular Adobe Photoshop (which is the pretty expensive) a lot as I went to college for computer art.  It's fairly easy to use, but I would probably recommend starting with the Adobe Photoshop Elements.  It's great to learn the program, can do many of the basic things you need (cropping, color touchups, ect) and it is a lot less expensive.  Then if you are finding you out grow that, maybe think about the regular Photoshop.  But there is a lot in the regular that you will probably never need to use.
  • Dh just upgraded me to CS4 I do think and I like it I am just gettin use to everything being different.

Maybe the Elements is what I was looking at.. I Might go with that because I'm just starting to get into Photography and  a lot of stuff is still going over my head..

  • I have PSE8 from the recommendations from people that it's a good starter program.  I have a difficult time running it on my ancient computer, so I don't use it too often yet.  For me, the program wasn't very intuitive, so I bought a book that is supposed to be very good.  I haven't used it yet because I can't really run the program.

I also hear good things about Lightroom.  If you're thinking of advancing with your photography a lot, you might want to do that program.  It's better for advanced photographers, so I hear.

    This.

It will be great starting out for you as a beginner photographer.  As you get more advanced you will know what more you are looking for in the software and that will help guide you.  I also second the recommendation for Lightroom as you advance.  Also there are probably tutorials for PS Elements online. I would check Youtube, and I know there is another site that has awsome video tutorials.  I have the link at home.  So if you do go that way, let me know I'll see if I can find the site.

  • My H uses Lightroom. That's the extent of what I know!
