Above and Beyond

So the topic on the radio this morning, was things that your boss has had you do that are not part of your job description.

One guy called in and said that his boss made him go to the doctor and get a prescription for Viagra.  The employee then got the prescription filled and gave it to his boss.

Anyone have any weird, crazy, or interesting things your boss has had you do for them?

I don't have anything interesting to share Sad

Re: Above and Beyond

  • At my last job, my boss used to have me go run errands for him. He was addicted to Mountain Dew, so I continually had to pick up cases of it for him when he was in town. The upside of this was that a) it was a paid break from work and b) he let me drive his company car, which was an Audi A4.
(An unmatched left parenthesis creates an unresolved tension that will stay with you all day.

    Woke up. Still queen.
  • I used to have to order my bosses viagara, but never pick it up - that's awful. My old boss was the ultimate douche - I swear he was the devil.

  • When I was at school in NYC I did an editing internship at a publishing company.  It wasn't long before the Human Resources Manager decided she wanted me for her personal assistant instead of doing what I interviewed for / was hired to do.  She sent me ALL over the city running her own personal errands.

I went to go get a broken heel repaired on her $1000 italian leather boots.  I went to Hermes to buy a French Silk Scarf for her friend's birthday.  I went to Burberry to buy her a new coat she put on layaway.  My own personal favorite was when she sent me to this strange address in midtown and when I got there I went up to the second floor like she intructed and it was an exclusive unadvertised spa with bamboo and a Budha statue in the lobby.  They sold rare herbal supplements with clever names like "Whey Cool" that she used to take by the fistful on a daily basis "to keep her looking young."  She was a crack job lol

  • hahaha

    those are great stories.

Mine isn't nearly as interesting, but I'm still pretty floored by my current daily activities.  I am currently working as a consultant for this company.  They hired me to do design work.  Like I'm supposed to make things pretty, that's all.

Right now they have me writing developer documentation and programming guides for their tech people.   It's like asking the sales guy in a hospital to come in and write the medical journal.  It's ludicrous!   I can't imagine what's going to happen when they actually try to read it cause I have no goddamn clue what I am doing. lol

  • I love that I'm not the only one who thought it was very Devil Wears Prada-like.

I haven't done anything more interesting than mail Netflix, return Red Box DVDs or pick up coffee.

  • Devil Wears Prada was exactly what it was like LOL.  But since she sent me all over the place I got to know NYC really well so it wasn't all bad.
