South Austin housing (rentals)
DH and I are starting to look for a rental in South Austin...which means I finally got a permanent job! I start in two weeks.
I'm taking a slight pay cut for it, so we're hoping to find an affordable rental house (SFH or duplex) for less than $900 a month (2/1.5 at minimum). Is this a total pipe dream? I'm finding some on craigslist for less, but not too sure about the neighborhoods. I've always lived in North Austin, so South Austin is completely foreign to me.
Any neighborhood advice? For those that live there, let me know if there is an area you see some rentals. I'm going to be driving around this weekend to start looking!
We have so much time, and so little to do! Strike that, reverse it.

There are several rentals in my neighborhood (Travis Heights), but my guess is that none of them are in your price range. You might look on the websites for Moreland and Green Mango real estate for rentals.
If you can name neighborhoods / areas where you are looking, that might help us be able to identify the sketchy ones. GL!
my brother is about to put his house up for rent. he's in the alto rancho subdivision, which is between brodie and manchaca along frate barker. quiet neighborhoods, young families. relatively new houses. easy access to the southpark meadows shopping center.
it's a 3 bed/2 bath.

I'm checking out those web sites now, thanks! I'll be able to update more on neighborhoods after this weekend when I drive around some. I know the areas around Brodie/Manchaca/William Cannon are places we'll be looking. We don't want to go too far west as one of DH's contracts is in Hutto.
