Wedding Ring Question

Have any of you swapped out your rings?

DH doesn't love his ring.  He says it feels somewhat bulky on his hand.  He currently wear something similar to this:

Men's 7.0mm Stainless Steel Wedding Band - Gordon's Jewelers

In my posession, I currently have my fathers wedding band from his first marraige, a plain gold ring, thin.  DH tried it on, and he said that it felt more comfortable.

So, my question is - has anyone swapped out their rings?  Any thoughts on this?

Do you think I could purchase him one as a Christmas Present?  Something similar to the one my dad use to wear, but only in white gold (H's preferance).

Re: Wedding Ring Question

  • I haven't swaped out my band, however, my band is a swap-out. I was looking for a ring and said I really liked the one my grandmother wore, so she gave it to me. She has swaped hers out numerous times, so it wasn't a big deal to her, but it meant a lot to me that she would allow me to have it. I love mine now so I can't see changing it in the future.
  • I dont plan on changing mine... we splurged a little bit to find a great band to go with my e-ring because I wanted something that I would love for a long time and not want to "upgrade."  However we did buy DH a new ring a couple months after the wedding.  He kept complaining about his band being too big and one day he washed his hands and it went flying when he shook the water off.  We were in the house so no big deal but I agreed it was too big.  Since we had bought him a titanium band, it couldnt be resized.  We bought him the same ring just a size smaller and he kept the other one in case he needs a bigger one someday.

We also agreed that maybe we'll upgrade his ring if he wants to someday but he didnt care much when we bought it and therefore we couldnt justify the $1600 difference in price between titanium and platinum (he doesnt like gold and mine are platinum so that was what we were choosing between).

For a comfort issue, I dont think it would be that big of a deal to buy a new one -- if it doesnt bother you for sentimental reasons it shouldnt bother anyone else.

  • We replaced David's band right after our honeymoon, Tungsten doesnt come in 1/4 sizesand cant be resized, so David ordered his a 1/4 size larger than what he needed, he felt like he was going to lose it our entire honeymoon and he decided it was a bit to "shiney" for him, so when we got back homemwe ordered a smaller one with more matte than shiney. The original ring from our ceremony is stored away in our safe. He loves the new one, it was worth it to swap. As for mine, we searched way to long and hard to find one that we both loved with my engagement ring, it will never be replaced!
  • I think it's just fine to swap out, I wouldn't want my H wearing something he didn't like and vice versa. I'm not all that sentimental or traditional of a gal though, but it wouldn't bother me one bit if my H wanted to get a different band.
  • my H refused to go to an actual store and get fitted (we bought our rings online), so we ended up swapping his ummm 3 times? (maybe 4, I forget), the last of which was mailed back from Hawaii on our honeymoon. (the first few were sent back before the wedding).  I don't really care that he isn't wearing the ring from the wedding ceremony, because that one turned his finger blue after two days... but we aren't telling my parents b/c they are superstitious (my dad has never taken his ring off).  The one he has now is actually a different style, as well as a different size, than the first one we bought, but he says it is more comfortable - the first was squared off, kind of like the one in the op, and the new one is rounded.
