Christmas traditions?

Does your family or DH's family have any fun or interesting Christmas traditions?

DH's family:
They open presents on Christmas eve. Santa comes while they are at evening church.
Everyone gets lotto tickets in their stockings.
They sit in a circle with their gifts and go around the circle to open them one at a time.

My family:
My dad always tells us Santa didn't come.
We watch Ziggy's gift every Christmas eve.
We get new pjs from the reindeer every Christmas eve that we have to wear on Christmas for photos.

Re: Christmas traditions?

  • In DH's family if anyone gets alcohol for Christmas everyone has to take a shot/drink. There have been some drunk Christmas mornings had. :) haha.

We have tamales on Christmas Eve in DH's family. We get them from downtown LA usually, they're awesome. If we ever move out of CA I will really miss them.

We don't really have any traditions in my family. That sounds sad, lol.

  • Haha, Sarah, I love the alcohol tradition.

Neither of our families have any real traditions either.  I suggester earlier this year that Matthew and I make up our own holiday at a different time of year and make everyone celebrate it with us. I guess that doesn't really count though, lol.

  • Traditionally we spend Christmas Eve at Justin's Aunts (dad's side of the family)  This year we are doing it a week early to make it easier on everyone.  Christmas Day we have Christmas breakfast at Justin's brothers and then we open gifts with his mom's side of the family.  We then go to my parents' house for Christmas dinner, and then later in the evening we go back to his brothers for adult chillaxing after the kids go to bed.  Last year we started a new tradition where my SIL, Step MIL and myself wore matching jammies for Chillaxing.  I am continuing it this year and although our Step MIL won't be coming up this year (they are in NC) I am sending her down a pair of PJs.
