sad story, T&Ps needed for my boss
My boss lost everything in his home to a fire last night. He seems to be doing ok. Thank god everyone is all right. They have 3 children and his mother in law was also staying with them. The house will be rebuilt but only after it is completely gutted and rewired (it was an electrical fire). He made me promise to go out and get fire alarms this afternoon. Thank god his daughter was able to get her grandma out ok before the firemen got there. She is a freshman. So sad
Re: sad story, T&Ps needed for my boss
ohmigosh. how awful!
btw- you don't have fire alarms in your house?
Nope! When I burned that plastic off my stove I realized it. There is one in my hallway and that is all and it doesn't work. It probably just needs a battery but I think we should have a few at least. I'm even thinking of paying extra on my alarm system so it includes fire in case something happens when we are not home.
So sad!
And I can't believe you don't have fire alarms!
Oh that's so sad. Glad they are safe. I can't imagine how devestating it would be to lose your photos and all the momentos from your past that can't be replaced.
He has 2 boys that are 10 and 12 and his daughter is a freshman. I'll find out her size. I'm sure they would appreciate anything!
Lauren I don't think it's on the news, and he is in contact with the fire investigators today to find out exactly what happened. Here is what I know.
His facebook status said "Gram and the kids are all safe!! The house will be fixed. Time to rest." so I started to worry. I texted him, then called work and heard the news. While I was talking to work he called in and I answered bawling, but he seems ok, so it made me feel better. He had his wifes phone and took a few calls on that while we were talking so we didn't talk too long, but I got that his daughter and her gramma were the only ones home. The boys were down the street, he wasn't home from work yet, and his wife was at a friends. Daughter went into the kitchen and smelled smoke but didn't know where it was coming from (it was inside the wall) so she went and got her gramma out of bed and called 911 and they got out of the house. DD is a hero. I guess she is taking it the worst

Seriously! I am glad they are okay, and his daughter certainly is a hero! Do you know if they have family nearby with whom they can at least celebrate the holidays (if they are people who celebrate, that is)? Please keep us posted!
I just found a short article about it online, but the part about the mother and her 2 handicap children is wrong. However, DD was indeed in a wheelchair recently, and was casted on her foot when she got out with her unwell gramma!! She's a blackbelt karate (all 3 kids are) but she recently had corrective foot surgery. So proud of her for getting her gramma out.

They are staying with family for the weekend and on Monday the insurance company will have them in a temp home, they are estimating 6 months while the house is fixed. Starting Mon they will be stripping it down to 2x4's. We are starting a collection at work for Christmas decorations so they can get up a tree asap! And some of us are planning on cooking up lots of casseroles to take a little stress off them.
