cheer me up

I just found out (through diagnosing myself) i have an ear disease that suuuuuuuuucks and i am having such the pity party for myself. I think being in this field, knowing all there is to know and expect from the disease makes it so much worse. Please cheer me up, aside from when i have been crazy busy at work i have been a mess. Seriously not looking for sympanthy or sorry to hear that posts, ill get past it and deal....but cheer me up and keep me occupied:) Thanks!

Re: cheer me up

  • Are you going to seek a 2nd opinion?

I hear you though on being in the field and knowing what is coming. Not personally, I have no diseases that I know of, but the Surgeon tells me the expected life span of some of the patients we see, and I can't help but think about stuff like that when I see the patients, or hear about other people that have the same disease.

  • I work in multiple ENT offices and have talked to each doc, and have my hearing tested throughout the week to confirm suspicions. I am going to get an MRI and see a doc in Tampa, for the fun of it i suppose....i know there is nothing to treat it. I now have so much more sympathy for patients that i couldn't understand their symptoms in the past.....i'm just on the very youngest end of the spectrum of when it is typically diagnosed so lucky me haha.

  • I know you mentioned your ear problem the other day, that sucks. I'm bad of thinking of ways to cheer people up. When I want to make myself feel better, I usually treat myself to whatever type of food I want. And then I make Jason entertain me with all the funny "characters" he does :P

Here are some weird emoticons to entertain you:

Sleep  Hi! I'm a "sleeping" emoticon, except I look more like I'm blowing out candles!

Wilted Flower  I'm a sad, pathetic, wilting flower.

    Dog arf arf!

Right Hug  I'm an ugly lego-looking emoticon who wants to give you a hug!

    HTH!

  • If you want to grab brunch this weekend, DD and I can do some silly things to make you feel better.  She might even point out your peepee for you, if you aren't sure where it is.

OMG Nicole that is too funny.

Ali, I will say I'm sorry, only because I know how horrible it is to have a hearing problem (I was born with a defect so I cannot hear out of one of my ears and have a deformity).  I hope that it is something that there is a "solution too".  I actually dreaded  getting my hearing tested a couple of months ago and was glad when I went and nothing had changed!  I really hope things go well for you.  Look at the bright side, if you don't want to listen to someone you can always say, I'm sorry I must not have heard you, even when you do  (I use it all the time!),

  • I am sorry Ali!  Keep us posted if the MRI shows something different.

As to how to cheer you up....hmm, I am not good at this stuff........here's a funny/dumb story about my H.  When we got married, he left his suitcase back at his parents house in Orlando (we were married in St. Pete).  Since he didn't have any clothes, he didn't wear any underwear under his tux.  IDK about you, but the last thing I would do is wear rented pants with no undies.  Ewwwww.

He also feed himself cake instead of me.  I was like "have you never been to an effing wedding?  Why in the world would you feed YOURSELF cake and not your new bride?".  Dumbass.

  • You guys are great:) Sorry I disappeared for a while, had a Dr appt, but I appreciate the concerns, distractions, emoticons, and funny stories.

And Lauren - I love your idea of eating whatever you want when you need cheering up. I have been wanting cupcakes for 2 days now, and I don't think I am going to deprive myself any longer. :)

Nicole: I seriously appreciate the offer for brunch and anatomy lesson, but I don't think I can this weekend - rain check? I would love to finally meet you and your adorable little girl at some point!

I used to have a dog that looked just like this one. He was a Chinese Sharpi, I got him for Christmas one year. His name was Tuddles!!

I hope everything works out for you!!! ENTs I'm sure you know are AWESOME!! They fixed my DD's ear infections when she was little!

  • As an Audiologist, I know all too well that there are good ENTs and not so good ENTs.....to be honest, aside from taking precautions with the MRI, I've got my diagnosis....Unfortunately mine isn't fixable. I just need to suck it up and learn to live with it/tolerate it I suppose.

  • Aly!!  You're sad???  Nooooo!  I just got home from work and I can't believe I wasn't here today to try and think of something to cheer you up.  Looks like the ladies have been doing a good job!  Are you having cupcakes for dinner or what??

OMG my H did the same thing. He thinks it's hilarious... I think he's stupid.

I'm sorry though... wish I had some funny story to cheer you up.

I just wrote "chair" instead of cheer at first LOL.

  • Great, I'm losing my vision and you are losing your hearing.  At least we can sit on a porch and rock and share stories of the good ole days.  I'm sorry but it really sucks that you are going through this.  And I agree that getting something to make you feel better works.  Thank goodness for Starbucks peppermint mocha and chocolate chip cookies!
