What are you doing today?

I've had the past two weekends literally to myself as DH has been writing his final papers for grad school and grading the exams he gave his students.  He's been doing all of this at his office on campus, meaning I have had the house to myself.  It's been great!

Today I'm baking up 6 loaves of bread to give to my colleagues at work for the holidays.  Unfortunately I only have 1 loaf pan, so it's been a slow process.  I've also done some cleaning, organizing, and laundry.

DH came home about an hour ago, grumbly because he was hungry and I wasn't willing to pick him up at his office and take him to McDonald's (as I said, my oven's been busy with bread, couldn't leave it).  He then said he wouldn't be home for dinner because of the time he had to take out of his work to walk home, get the car, and go get lunch.  I'd be willing to bet, though, that when 6-7pm comes around he'll change his tune!

  • I'm hanging out in my apartment with the husband and the dog, because, well... we're snowed in.  I think we've got at least 3 feet of snow with the drifting and stuff.  We spent an hour or so digging out my car this morning so we don't have to deal with it tomorrow.

I've been baking away this weekend, including trying out some cake balls! They're delicious :)

  • I just got the last of my christmas shopping done. It was crazy busy.  So now I'm going to relax with a martini and wrap some gifts. One day I'll bake.  I keep putting it on my New Years Resolutions to try.

DH has snow blown 5 driveways (or will) by the end of tonight. He's a good guy. I guess I'll make him a martini too when he gets home.

Wish my luck on my first day of my new job!

  • I slept late, made pancakes, and then spent the afternoon babysitting (i.e. spoiling)  a friend's 3 month old while she and her H went house shopping. They found something, which is good. Its further away from me, but I'll still visit ;) At this exact minute I'm sitting on the couch with some chips and salsa, watching football and staring at our yet unpacked suitcases. My goal for the evening is to finish unpacking them and finish my thank you notes, so I can reclaim my living room.

  • Steph-- a friend of mine makes those and they're my favorite!!! She even made some with pink sprinkles on top for the candy buffet at our wedding to match our colors. They were the first things gone....sooo yummy :)

  • SIL, BIL and nephew were in town this weekend, so this morning my 1 year old nephew and 10 year old son assembled a gingerbread house and baked chocolate chip cookies.  Then my son and I went to H's restaurant for lunch (it's good to be the GM's wife - our meal was comped!) and to the mall to do some Christmas shopping.  It was a total bust.  DS and I didn't buy a thing...although I now know what I need to go back to the mall to buy for him!
  • Yesterday was my husband's birthday. We lounged around most of the day. I made chocolate and butterscotch chip cookies from scratch with our KitchenAid for the very first time ever. They aren't the best cookies I've ever had but we both really liked them and I'm so excited to have finally baked something! He made a yummy pork dinner and we went out for drinks. Today I'm working on grad school apps and studying for my Latin final.
